Came to the reviews to see if anyone else was having issues with a recent bag, and it looks like a lot of us are in the same situation. Hill's appears to have changed the formula with no notice. There was no clear heads-up on the bag, and it left us without enough time to slowly transition, which is especially important for cats on urinary-support food. My cat has had urinary crystals in the past, and this was the only food he would consistently eat that actually helped. Since opening this new bag, he's started peeing outside the litter box (which has already damaged floorboards and a kitchen cabinet), and he's also vomiting several times a day. I'm extremely disappointed. This food used to be a reliable solution for us, and now I'm dealing with a sick cat and expensive home damage. If the formula has changed, customers deserve transparency and a clear transition plan.

Formula Changed Without Notice

As many, many other reviews here have noted, Hill's changed the formula completely between one bag and the next. I have been getting this food for over a year now

As many, many other reviews here have noted, Hill's changed the formula completely between one bag and the next. I have been getting this food for over a year now with no issues, and it has kept my male cat with a history of urinary issues healthy, so I planned to keep feeding it to both cats for.... well, for as long as Hill's sold it. But this new formula means they might as well have discontinued it entirely. I honestly find it dishonest and shady that the brand did not advertise this change ANYWHERE--not even a picture of the very different looking kibble, or a little blurb on the packaging that says "new formula." I noticed it was different in size and shape as soon as I got it, but hoped it would be relatively the same formula, even though it smelled different, too (worse). My cats will eat it, but both of them swallow excessively and pick their lips afterward, and my male cat makes pre-vomiting noises and motions before visibly swallowing back the vomit after every meal. I don't feel safe feeding this to my cats for much longer, I don't have any confidence that the new formula will be effective, and I no longer trust the Hill's brand at all. I will be looking elsewhere for future urinary diet food.

The formula/recipe change was not disclosed. I noticed the different look of the kibble, nothing different on the bag, called Chewy and no notifications on their end. I thought it was a slip up at the factory, got a replacement. unfortunately, it was the same item. My cats vomited and could not eat it. I have trashed an unused bag. After being unable to transition to a new food (since they won't eat it at all) and have selected a totally different brand. 0 stars is not an option....

I have used this food for a while now and with the recent bag I purchased I could tell something was different. My cats were getting sick almost 3-4 times a day, come to find out the recipe was changed. I have since switched to a different brand and my cats are doing a lot better. I wish I could have gotten a notification about the change especially when I buy the biggest bag and this brand is already a bit pricey. I have almost a full bag left and don’t know what to do with it.

Extremely disappointed in Hill's, I will never buy from them again. My boys have been on this food for years and they loved it. It resolved my older one's urinating issues. I noticed the change immediately (the smell is awful) and my boys pick around it and are having tummy issues now. Hill's has lost my respect and their credibility. For those wondering for a new formula, I ordered Purina Pro Plan Urinary. Fingers crossed. Shame on you Hills.

I have been buying this food for years with no issues. This last order the kibble was darker and tighter in shape and Strong smell. Both my cats ate it at first then puked it up immediately. Tried 3 more feeding times and my female cat won't even touch it now and the male eats it then pukes it up....Hills ruined this cat food for me and my cats. Now I have to start the journey over again with another brand.

This new formula is ugh

I have bought this food for a while now. Some of cats didn't eat it, some did. I was okay with it, as I also feed another brand. When I got my past bag, I noticed

I have bought this food for a while now. Some of cats didn't eat it, some did. I was okay with it, as I also feed another brand. When I got my past bag, I noticed the kibble was smaller. I was happy, I hated the big kibble. But I didn't think much of it. I was so happy though, as I realized ALL of my cats ate it, even the ones that didn't eat it before. I was pretty excited until I stepped in throw up. I thought maybe one of the cats ate it too fast, cleaned it up and kept going about my day. Then I found more piles of throw up EVERYWHERE! I was so confused and googled it and found out they didn't just change the size of the kibble, they changed the formula. I can only guess that's why my cats threw it up. I absentmindedly fed it to them again and only realized it when I stepped in a pile of throw up again. I thought to myself, ugh! I used that food again, and decided to look for any more throw up I could find and sure enough, I found more piles of puke, but I found way less throw up than before. I wondered to myself, did some of their tummies get used to it? Is that why I have less piles of throw up than before? To test that theory I fed it to them again mixed in with some other food, and sure enough some of the cats threw it up, and some didn't. I wish I could say, "oh they just need to get used to it," but I can't be for sure. Will I buy it again? I don't know. I really want a UTI food for my older cats that's "high quality" as I feed the younger ones a more affordable UTI food. But I just don't want to spend my time looking for piles of puke every time they eat it, and I wouldn't be a very good cat mom if I fed a food that I KNOW makes some of them throw up. I'm on the fence on this one.

If it ain’t broken don’t fix it- BUT

Honestly I was so scared to feed my boy the new formula. I talked to my vet, we talked about the new ingredients and he reassured me it’s still going to be okay

Honestly I was so scared to feed my boy the new formula. I talked to my vet, we talked about the new ingredients and he reassured me it’s still going to be okay. GI & vomiting symptoms aren’t going to be the worst thing in the world, as most diet changes can be. So I took the risk. And honestly? He ate everything, did not leave any crunchies behind, and it seemed like after he had his meal for the first time he was suddenly happier? (I guess everyone is happier after they eat but he seems more calm and blissful than usual) No vomit or diarrhea either. Just a happy cat getting what he needs. If you still have the old formula, transition slowly if you’re worried.

We fed our cat this food exclusively for years. Yesterday we bought a new bag and noticed the shape of the food was different. We fed him last night and woke up this morning to piles of vomit EVERYWHERE. Hills changed the ingredients of the cat food but did not disclose this anywhere on the bag. I was going to include a photo of the vomit minefield we got to clean up but I figured you guys get the idea.

I have used this item for years because I have a long hair cat prone to hairballs and I have a male cat with urinary issues. It has always been great until they changed the formula. I feed my cats at night and every night since I purchased the new formula my cat has thrown up after eating it. Why change something that doesn’t have anything wrong with it? I know it sells good because a lot of times the stores are out of it. I’m very disappointed in the change.
