Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |

My cat was suffering from severe diarrhea which was very foul smelling. Her vet wrote us a prescription for hydrolyzed dry cat food and we choose Purina Pro Plan. Best buy we've ever made! Within a few days the odor was completely gone and within a week her stools were back to normal. And she loves this food! We're both very happy now! Thank you!
I ordered this product because one of my boys has sensitive digestion issues. My vet recommended a hydrolized dry food. Neither of my cats would even try it. I mixed it in with their old food from the beginning at about 4:1 ratio with 1 part being this product. They refused to eat anything. I tried it straight. I tried everything. Not even in the morning when they are ravenous would they eat any of it. Big waste of $65+.
I was told to switch to hydrolyzed protein to see if we could get my cat to stop vomiting every week. Well this cat food was very successful as he only puked once in the 8 weeks he was on it. Both my male and female cat really loved the food and were very excited to eat it. However.....it gave the poor boy chronic diarrhea and lots of gas. Thankfully the gas wasn't too smelly and the diarrhea was contained to the litter box. I was hoping it would get better the longer he was on the new food but no such luck. I have since switched to the Blue Buffalo HF and thus far no diarrhea or vomiting. My female cat had no issues with soft stool at all but she has a very strong constitution. So it may work for you.
My cat had been gladly eating this (and canned food) for a while (over a year) when she developed intractable diarrhea. A fecal test, an ultrasound and a 4-week course of steroids along with a 100% Purina HA diet did not solve the problem. 1 Day off of Purina HA and eating a variety of canned food (fancy feast, Nulo) she produced and continued to produce a proper stool. Neither the vet nor I understand quite why that is since this is an old standby for treatment GI issues.
I was honestly not expecting my kitty to like this dry food since he’s so spoiled with wet food - but he eats it by itself and it seems to be making his tummy feel better already, but will need some more time to see the full effects! The food also doesn’t smell stale or smell tasteless like some dry foods do, it has a nice smell so probably a good taste for the kitties.
My cat has never had diarrhea and after two days of starting her on this food her poops were really soft, then when we switched to this food alone, they became wet, gassy, messy poops. So messy she sprayed diarrhea on the walls and got it all over her legs. We put her back on her old food and started her on Z/D today. Just have to wait and see!
My cat is prescribed this and oh my gosh. She used to have horrible diarrhea on everything else she’s been on. But wow. My girl made a comeback and I’m so happy, she looks so much better and she’s gaining weight and her coat is super shiny and soft.
My cat was always throwing up and had a thick plugged up bowel. Vet suggested this along with meds and she is eating again. Started munching right away and does not get sick anymore.
The last few bags of this Purina Pro Plan Vet dry (HA hydrolyzed) formula I’ve received has arrived with too many crumb sized pieces in the bag. What you would normally see at the very bottom of an almost empty bag is now throughout. My cat starts leaving piles of the tiny pieces all around her food bowl because she can’t eat them. My last 2 bags in a row were like this. Usually I’d get one or two good ones in between a crumby one which is why I always forgot to leave a review about this issue.
One of my boys had the PU surgery. Poor boys has had issues since, it’s been over 6 months. Blood in his urine, he doesn’t feel good… few trips to our vet, and trying different things. As of 3 weeks ago, both boys are on the HA kibble and a wet food that’s also prescription. As of last Thursday they don’t get treats, until I can find a healthy alternative, but so far, since the foods been introduced, I feel there has been a positive change, and since the treats were removed, happy to report clear urine! They both seem to like the food, and if it helps them feel better, that’s all that matters to me. Now to find a treat that works with this prescription!!!
