How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

It's as good as medicine
By Salocowen on Mar 30, 2021
I started my dog on this food after she started having occasional partial seizures. As far as I know, she never had another one while she was on this food. The only issues I have with it are the price and well, Xena has an issue with the flavor. She will only eat it willingly if I mix it with some kind of broth. Otherwise, she will literally starve herself for a couple days, choosing to eat the grass outside before she eats this food. Unfortunately, I lost my good-paying job so I am switching to another Purina food that is supposed to be good for brain health. I can only hope my baby doesn't start having seizures again.

Excellent food
By Faith on Feb 2, 2021
This food is amazing! First of all, it is one of a kind - no other company has a food like this. It’s actually formulated like a Keto for dogs with added ingredients to help cognitive function - fascinating science behind it. We started our beagle on this back in November at the recommendation of our vet, and she is doing exceptionally well - no weird neurological activity of any kind. She loves the taste too! We thought she was a grazer because she wouldn’t finish all her food at one time - but she scarfs this down. I could see the kibble being too large for a very small dog, but it’s great for her. Thanks Purina for always making great products we can trust

Neurocare for my senior Border Collie with Canine Cognative Disorder
By Carole on Jan 19, 2021
He's only been on it for a short time, a few weeks. I was told by someone else who has a dog with CCD that her dog does not like it. But mine is not a fussy eater and he is eating every scrap. It might help that I wet both my dogs food with water and about a heaping tablespoon of wet food. Are the results good? I really can't tell yet, and since CCD is progressive, I don't expect a cure, but I'm hoping that with Neurocare it will be slowed.

My dog doesnt like the food
By Moriah on Feb 3, 2021
Got this food as an alternative to medications for my dog who is having seizures. Unfortunately she does not like the taste and refuses to eat it, despite us trying different things like broth on it. Its also really annoying that a bag of food this expensive doesn't have a way to reseal the bag.

Might be good, but...
By EricL on Jan 14, 2021
I can't really give a proper review of this product. It seemed to be good, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't get my 16-year-old dog who is the king of picky eaters, to eat it. I managed to get him to eat some for a short time and it seemed to be ok for him - but the struggle was too real and too much so had to go another route.

Milo wolfs it down...
By GreenMountainDog on Jan 20, 2021
We've had no issues transitioning our 3 year old Springer from a super premium dry kibble to ProPlan NeuroCare. He loves it and actually asks for more. We're a week into our new feeding regime and I'll follow up in a month or two with an update on seizure frequency. In the meantime, 5 stars for flavor.

My Dog will not eat
By Jennifer on Jan 12, 2021
My dog has been having seizures and the vet suggested we add this food into his diet along with meds. My dog hated it, refused to eat it. I tried mixing wet food in and he would eat the wet and spit out the Neurocare food. We discontinued the food.

Too hard for small dog w/CCD
By CaSa on Nov 15, 2020
This might be a wonderful food, but I cant tell. My 9 yrs old chihuahua was diagnosed with CCD and her wonderful Vet prescribed this food for her. My dog is a rescue and would eat anything! The first few days feeding her this, she would not eat all of her food. Added broth, and she still would not eat it. Added wet food, nope. After soaking it on broth I tried to smash it and found out the kernels are SUPER hard! No wonder my dog would not eat it. I grinded and mixed with wet food and she still doesn't like it. We noticed the food hardens quick. She will eat anything else, but this food. We are going to have to try a more expensive food in hope we can give her a well balanced diet. Works for pups with seizures
By Aggie on Jan 11, 2021
This food has been a god send. My pup has seizures he has been on meds for 5 years now. Sep to Oct 2020 seizures started happening every two weeks. I changed his food to this brand and started to give him honest paw cookie treats twice a day....he only had one seizure from Nov 2020 to today. Keeping my fingers crossed. I think the food is helping. I’ll update again later this year.
