can you remove the "step"?

Floor Saver

I have an elderly cat that can’t keep her back legs bent for very long. Consequently, before she finishes urinating, she is standing. With previous cat pans with high sides, she would walk straight in and ultimately end up urinating out the entryway. The Paw Trax has eliminated that. It was pricey but I am saving in disposable pads. Sometimes 2 or 3 a day. The only drawback is the area under the step. It is very narrow making it difficult to scoop out as sometimes urine passes over and through the step. Other than that, I have ne complaints whatsoever.
