Questions & Answers

42 Customer Questions

Does this dog food cause the dog to drink more water?
Answer by ChewyOct 01, 2018
This food is not formulated to stimulate thirst.

Is there a shelf life for the gastrointestinal low fat dry food? If so, could it be longer if some is stored in freezer or fridge?
Answer by ChewySep 03, 2018
The best way to keep the product fresh is to store it in the original bag, inside a container, and use within 1-2 months. Since the product is naturally preserved, the longer the bag is open, the more the food can oxidize. It is not recommended to freeze the food because that can draw out the moisture in the kibble and upon thawing, it can mold. Chewy guarantees that every bag you receive in an order will be at least 3 months from expiring.

Can you tell me the protein, fat and fiber content in this dog food? Also carbohydrate percentage? Thank you!
Answer by ChewyJul 10, 2018
This product contains a minimum of 20% protein, a minimum of 4.5% fat, a maximum of 3.6% fiber, and approximately 55% carbohydrates.

The feeding guide only goes up to 88lbs. Is this not for big dogs? Are they guidelines that go up through 120lbs, or is it simple calculation using lower weights?
Answer by ChewyOct 18, 2020
Please refer to the photo below for the extended Feeding Guide. If you are unsure, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian.

Royal Canin Is a Royal Food

I have a Chow Chow. He is my big fur ball named Furby. He has had many gastrointestinal issues and they’ve been frequent, resulting in diarrhea, vomiting, and constantly chewing on his feet until they have sores. I’ve also noticed that he’s had sores on his back under the fur. His veterinarian suggested that he eat a low fat diet, because Chows can have issues with their pancreas due to high fat. Since placing Furby on this food he has had absolutely no issues and he loves the taste of this Royal Canin food. The price is not bad considering the size of the bag. Since this is a prescription diet, Chewy did have to contact my vet for approval and then they shipped the food immediately. Chewy always makes it simple which I appreciate. I have been a loyal Chewy customer for more than 7 years and I will continue to be. Furby said this food is paw-sitively perfect and he approves.

Seems to have cured my dogs stomach issues

We have been dealing with bloody stool, which led to diarrhea with my 12.5 year old lab for months. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis, so we did the chicken and rice diet for a couple of weeks, nothing got better, we started adding her old food in which was Hills Sensitive Stomach, that made things worse... so we decided to try the Royal Canine, OMG, the morning after the first serving was the best bowel movement my dog has had in months! It was formed, firm and clear of any blood. We are on day 8 and things are still going great, I can't believe what a difference this food has made. Her BM's are picture worthy! haha.. thanks Royal Canine!

Amazing food!

After asking a friend what she was feeding her pup, I decided to give this a try. After years of suffering from colitis, Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat saved my pup! We use both the wet low fat loaf and the dry. This food has changed my dogs life!!

Pricey but works

My dog had a series of GI problems during his first year and we tried different diets. Royal Canin is working the best so far. It's worth it to buy the 28lb. bag if you can because the smaller units of 1.5lbs are used up quickly and will cost half the price of the much larger bag.

NOT for very small dogs

I purchased this to see if it would help my 8 yr old small 4 lb Chihuahua with his Gastro/IBS issues. Not only is the kibble to big for his tiny mouth but even after using a meat mallet to break the kibble up into smaller pieces he walked away from it. Picture shows his feelings towards this food!

Chewy has real humans who you can call and actually talk to!

My dog likes this vet prescribed food for his health conditions. I love Chewy and the amazing service they provide. They actually answer phones and knowledgeable reps talk to you and help you with exchanges or questions. They fill orders quickly and I like their products and services. In this age of technology and robot phone "reps" having a real person answer the phone without multiple prompts is refreshing! Thanks, Chewy I like doing business with you!

Recommended by Vet

My vet recommended this product as my fur baby had pancreatitis. Cleared up the problem & my dog has been pain free for over a year. I also buy the canned food of this same product & mix the 2 together. My dog likes it.

out of dog food

We were on a vacation for a month. I thought I had brought along enough dog food only to find out I didn't. It was easy enough to call chewy and have Chewy mail out a small bag to hold us over. Sorry I cannot remember the name of the gal that assisted with this order. She was great. Chewy even shipped to alternate address.

Good dry food

Our little dog had to go on this food due to a food allergy, and irritable bowel syndrome. We weren't sure she would like it, but she gobbles it up at every meal!

Food for Recovery

Our miniature schnauzer was diagnosed with pancreatitis early in January and was extremely Ill. This illness started fast and severe requiring hospitalization and several doctor visits. Her doctor recommended this food and she has been doing very well on it. She can be a picky eater at times but is devouring this food. It’s great to see her well and happy. We will learn in a few weeks if we will need to keep feeding her a low fat diet.
