About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Cats

Worried About Your Cat’s Digestion?

Your cat’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Cat’s GI System

  1. Mouth: where ingestion of hair and formation of hairballs can occur, due to frequent grooming.
  2. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  3. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion.
  4. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  5. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  6. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

Is the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal canned AND dry food appropriate for my cat with mega colon?
Answer by ChewyJul 20, 2019

Hi. Does this have omega 3&6 and if so what percentage? Also this is for loose stool not just constipation correct?
Answer by ChewyAug 11, 2021
This recipe contains 1.35% Omega 6 and 0.16% Omega 3. Gastrointestinal High Energy Canned Food is a palatable, digestible diet that supports digestive health for cats with gastrointestinal sensitivities. It can help with loose stool and constipation.

Can unused portions of the gastrointestinal pate be frozen?
Answer by ChewyOct 14, 2022
It is not recommended to freeze this canned food as mold can form when taken out of the freezer. We recommend covering the can and putting it in the fridge. Refrigerating them would make these cans last up to 48 hours.

My cat likes this

Knightly has issues with vomiting and the vet suggested this canned food. He really likes it. He ate it so fast, it seemed like he inhaled it! He had his first can today and I will get a case of it. I will do another review once he has been on it for awhile. I do not know why pet owners get a casse of a food untried by their pet. If he/she doesn't like it or makes things worse, then they have so many cans leftover. Not smart! There are some stores that carry single cans. Do that first! Chewy has been great for refills for Knightly's dry vet food. Not a problem with this. don't know why another reviewer had issues.

Cat refuses this food

My senior cat recently had some gastrointestinal issues, so my vet recommended switching her to this food. She is not a fan. I got the pate because usually she will only eat pate, but not this stuff. I mean, sometimes she will nibble on it throughout the day, but it's definitely not her favorite. I think she actually liked the thin slices in gravy version better. Unfortunately, we still have 23 cans of this food to get through.

picky picky picky

Great nutritional value, but sadly I gakked up after licking my bowl clean when tasting for the first time. Even when mom sneakily combines with my morsels food, I just eat around it if I don’t flat out turn my nose up completely and give it my tail. Despite my moms even heating it up and stretching out my feeding schedule to make sure I am hungry, it just doesn’t suit. I may change my mind later (as I have done before) but right now, nope. And since I am the boss of her……

It works for my cat

My 10 year old Chloe has been chronically constipated for quite a few years. Plus, she isn’t a water drinker. This Royal Canin gastrointestinal loaf is the only food that helps her have regular BMs once per day. One can lasts me a few days, as I mix it with her Fancy Feast. She won’t eat it plain. It’s quite expensive, but it makes her more comfortable, so I buy it. I’ve been feeding it for a few years without any problems.

What happened?

I have been feeding this to my cat for nearly two years and it worked well for his sensitive stomach issues. However, the last two cartons I have purchased have not been satisfactory at all. First of all, they looked odd, some bile-like substance on the top, and the food is mushy, not firm like it used to be. Most importantly, he has been having diarrhea eating this food, which has caused weight loss. He is a senior cat with digestive issues, and the last two cartons have made him worse. For the considerable cost of this food, I am totally dissatisfied and will not be using Royal Canin any longer. By the way, it also smelled bad, and his stool smelled horrible from it. Something must have changed and I am very displeased.

Helped a lot

My cat has kidney disease and was prescribed this when she developed pancreatitis. She tolerates this particular food very well.

Royal Canin prescription cat food.

The cat must know he needs it. He eats all I give him. Time will tell if it takes care of inflammation.

Happiest Kitty Food Shipped Fast

On our vet’s advice, we recently switched our calico Nora from the dry to the canned version of Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Moderate Calorie formula food. After a disappointing experience with another online supplier, I turned to Chewy.com, I was happily surprised. Ordering was easy, clear, user-friendly and shipping was fast. The change in Nora’s weight and mood has been wonderful. And we are happy to find and stick with Chewy as our source.

My cat loves it......

My Main Coon Ragdoll mix has bowel and intestine issues. When he eats this food he doesn't have any problems. He loves the loaf version only. Great product that does what it says it will do when following a healthy feline diet.
