Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

A relief for everyone
By Normanator on Feb 5, 2021
This was a game changer for my little guy (2 yr old mix). We adopted him 4 months ago from a shelter after he was picked up by animal control, having been abandoned and living under someone’s house. Since coming to our house, he has had non-stop diarrhea and gas - just the worst-smelling death poos, that got everywhere. Poor guy was really struggling. We did all kinds of lab work, deworming, antibiotics, probiotics, and every quality single ingredient food under the sun was tried. Nothing worked. Nothing. My vet recommended this food (cat hates pate so this stew was perfect). I honestly don’t like some of the ingredients listed but I can’t be picky at this point. His poos are way more manageable This was a game changer for my little guy (2 yr old mix). His poos are way more manageable (within 48 hours I saw a difference). An occasional loose one when he’s stressed or anxious but WAY better in both consistency and smell. Relief for everyone. Just wish they made bigger cans (he goes through 3-4 a day) and another flavor. But this flavor still gets demolished (bowl licked clean) and it’s been a month. My other cat even prefers it to her food. … more

Excellent cat food with great results
By Dogbone on Mar 1, 2021
Our cat was throwing up several times per day and had stopped eating. We took her to the vet and he recommended that we try this cat food. We have tried other cat foods in the past had had little hope of any change. Boy were we wrong! Our cat regained her appetite, hasn't thrown up once, and her fur coat is much softer now. Were it not for this cat food I do not think our cat would have survived much longer as she simply refused to eat at all and was down to less then 7 pounds (previous weight was upwards of 11 pounds).

Great middle of the road decision!
By Beasley on Mar 4, 2021
My cat has issues with his teeth but has a heart murmur so I won't do a dental. I only do routine antibiotics as needed. But he also vomits easily if he eats too fast or too much at a time. Pate' he loved at first and did great but quickly lost interest. Morsels in gravy he likes but makes a huge mess because they are still a little hard for him to chew. This is perfect! Gives him the softness but also some substance and chucky too.

MY CATS HATE IT
By TraceyCatLady on Feb 20, 2021
I have four cats. One of them came down with pancreatitis. The vet prescribed this food. NOT ONE of the cats will touch this food. Even if they get offered nothing but this food for an entire day and don't eat, and the next day they should be hungry enough to eat ANYTHING, they will not touch this food. How bad can it be when four cats would rather starve to death than eat this? 95% of this very expensive food has been thrown into the trash.

Other cat likes it too!
By Julie on Jan 17, 2021
My new young cat has a digestive problem & the vet prescribed this food. It definitely has improved her stools & my other cat likes it too! Vet said it was good for my older cat to eat it too.... so that makes feeding time a lot easier! Recommend the probiotic powder too... they love the food even more with that sprinkled on it. (Also recommended by my vet)

Changed Formula??
By Suzy on Jan 31, 2021
Has anyone else had their cat stick their nose up at this prescriptive food after eating it for two months? My two cats (one with digestive issues) have been eating this wholeheartedly for the last two months. This new delivery we just got must have a different formula from the previous ones? My one cat with the digestive issues smelled something right away and would not touch it. It's been one week now and both cats still will not eat it.

This is the only food my cat can eat
By ElleJay on Jan 5, 2021
I have an FIV+ cat, and Hill's i/d Chicken and Veg Stew is the ONLY wet food he can tolerate (he will eat other wet foods, but regurgitates them soon after). My usual source had their deliveries delayed, so I ordered from Chewy, and received very fast (2 days), well before I was out of food for my kitty. This is a quality cat food. My cat's coat is super soft and he sheds hardly at all, and it's easy for him to maintain a perfect weight -- without being left begging for more food. I adopted him 3 years ago, and he's been eating the stew all that time -- and he still loves it! Including the tiny minced carrots.

Really works!!!
By Benji on Dec 1, 2020
My cat had chronic diarrhea that smelled awful. He was so sick that he would leak a little through the house randomly. He has something wrong with him and IBS medicine worked a little, but this food shocked me. After just two days I noticed his stool changing. After a week on this food the color is normal and it’s a normal shape. Now let’s face it, no poop smells great, but his was a sickening awful scent that carried through the house and lingered. He now smells “normal”. The food itself doesn’t smell like cat food either. It sort of smells like a human could eat it and my cat seems to like it even though it has veggies in it.

Perfect for Cat Tummies
By Lacy on Jan 21, 2021
My cat has digestive issues and is very picky about the taste of her food. When she hears that can rip open she comes running now. She is also throwing up less and seems to be more regular. She is an aging cat with no teeth so this is perfect for her!

Good Food for Cat
By moosemoon on Jan 2, 2021
This guy is in end stage renal failure. All we can do is keep him comfortable and hopefully - eating. He has actually gained weight since he started loving this food. It's about all he eats now. Grateful that we don't have to drive so far to the vet's office to get it.
