About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Cats

Worried About Your Cat’s Digestion?

Your cat’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Cat’s GI System

  1. Mouth: where ingestion of hair and formation of hairballs can occur, due to frequent grooming.
  2. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  3. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion.
  4. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  5. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  6. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Find The Perfect Balance

Questions & Answers

Hello i live in south korea and this product is currently out of stock. Is there any way i can buy this product with korean vet’s prescription? I have a california address your company can ship to. I am quite desperate.

Is this food okay for other cats to eat? I have another cat and want to make sure it’s okay for her to eat this food.
Answer by ChewyAug 08, 2018
Since this is a prescription food formulated to meet specific diet restrictions from known health issues, this food should not be fed to any other animal than the one prescribed due to the restriction of specific nutrients. Prescription diets can be detrimental to an otherwise healthy pet if that pet doesn't have the ailment for which the food is designed.

Is this for urinary also?
Answer by ChewyJun 20, 2019
This food is formulated to help cats manage common gastrointestinal sensitivities.

Good for pancreatitis?
Answer by ChewyJan 24, 2018
The food is formulated to support a cat's digestive health concerns or food sensitivities. We advise consulting with the veterinarian to determine the best option for your cat.

Works well - but expensive

One of my rescues has severe constipation even though I make sure that he gets a lot of liquids. After having to take him to the vet yet again, this fiber response dry food was suggested. It seemed strange to treat constipation with dry food, but it really works. I was fortunate that my vet was able to give me some to make sure that he liked it prior to ordering. As expensive as it is, vet visits cost even more, so if it keeps him healthy and not having to go to the vet, it's a win.

Aides Cat’s Hyperthyroidism

My cat has hyperthyroidism and this food has been a major aid with his disease. He will have to battle hyperthyroidism for life and prior to having this food he experienced non-stop hunger urges, regular vomiting, digestive issues, and trouble absorbing nutrients. With this food he’s been able to come off two medications that helped him poop and to ease his stomach. I highly recommend this food!!!!

appreciate quick vet approval and shipment

I appreciated your quick check for approval by our vet; for this prescription diet for rapid GI transit to lower ionized calcium and also for weight loss. Delivery was timely so she could start it right away. Only needed a short transition (3-4 days) as she loved it. Perfect amount of fiber. She does not like this food soaked in water but prefered it dry. She had eaten wet food before but now she drinks water separately.

Royal Canin - vet recommended

Cats seem to enjoy eating it; they’re not wolfing it down, but they eat it. My one cat has diarrhea but it doesn’t seem to be helping his issues. Then again, he’s only been on the diet for a week and a half, so I’m hoping between the food and his meds, we will help solve his tummy issues.

Seems to work; although the cats don't love the flavor

Both of my cats have had diarrhea for over a year now and after spending thousands at the vet, we're no closer to figuring out the issue. At my wits end, I decided to give this food a try. The vet suggests exclusively giving this food but my cats aren't keen on the flavor so I'm still mixing it with their existing food. I have noticed their stool solidifying a bit but maybe due to the fact that the food isn't addressing the underlying issue and/or because this isn't the only food in their diet, their stools are a very strange and (TMI) almost rubbery consistency in the outside. Still pretty gross if I'm honest, but they're easier to pick up and I have noticed less blood and mucus too. They're also not drinking water like their lives depend on it, which makes me happier. The food is definitely worth a shot but ultimately, we need to get to the root of the issue because this isn't a cure-all. Overall, I'm happy with Chewy itself and that they have this food in stock.

too large bag for the hope it works for your cat

Sadly my cats issues became worse eating this food. What is the most frustrating is there is not a smaller size option to see if it works. Now I’m stuck with pounds of this food that was very expensive with no one to eat it!!!

This food has been prescribed by our veterinarian for both of our cats—one with IBD and one who is FIV+ and has dreadful hairballs with horrible breath. Within days, both cats were clearly feeling better as evidenced by their increased activity levels, lack of hairballs, and the breath problem has disappeared completely (extremely important since that cat is an orange tabby ‘cuddle bug’ who is constantly breathing right in my face.). They also are regaining a more suitable weight as they were both a couple of pounds too heavy. I highly recommend this food!

Good at first

Started out improving elderly cat health but then he got super-constipated. Now my cat is doing well on Fancy Feast, plus anti-nausea and laxative meds. Always keep an eye on litter box. If pooping stops or quantity of urine increases dramatically, check with vet.

Was concerned my cat would not like this food considering how costly it is, but he dived right in. It seems to be successful in alleviating his digestive issues.

Excellent food

My cat, who is FIV, had digestive problems when I first got her a few years ago, due to the inexpensive food she was eating at the shelter. So the vet suggested the Royal Canin gastrointestinal food. My cat has not had digestive issues since. And she likes it too! I highly recommend it.
