What does the SO stand for in the urinary SO?

Answer by ChewyFeb 11, 2019
SO stands for struvite oxalate.

Should the bag come vacuum sealed? I received the bag and it doesn't look vacuum sealed as it's got air in it. Can I still feed it to my cat??!

Answer by ChewyAug 06, 2019
Royal Canin's bags are not vacuum sealed, however are nitrogen flushed. During packaging, the oxygen is forced out of the bag to keep kibble fresh. Kibble is safe to feed as long as it's before the expiration date.

What is the magnesium, ash & phosphorus content?

Answer by ChewyOct 26, 2020
This variety contains approximately 0.1% Magnesium content on an as fed basis (0.1% on a dry matter basis), 1.26% Phosphorus content on an as fed basis (1.3% on a dry matter basis) and the 7.2% Ash content on an as fed basis (7.9% on a dry matter basis).

What is the size of the kibble? I have Maine Coons and they like large kibble.....

Answer by ChewyNov 19, 2019
The kibble for this formula is about half the size of a regular M&M.

When my male cat had a UTI, this was prescribed to manage his crystal buildup. The vet recommended since I’m a multi-cat household to switch them all over to this formula. As expensive as it is, it’s worth it to keep their urinary health in tip top shape and avoid emergent vet visits. I feed my cats this, along with a wet food and pumpkin puree diet and they are so happy. GOOD TO KNOW: use the royal canin chart on food percentages to slowly introduce this new food to their diet. If you switch immediately to this they may get constipated. A gradual change helps mitigate this. The way this food works is it makes them more thirsty so they intake more water. I didn’t see an immediate change in their drinking habits, but after all it 2 weeks I really noticed. I supplied more drinking areas in my house and I have noticed a significant increase in their water intake, which in turn has the cats using their litter boxes more. Which is great because that’s how you keep their tracts clear! Adding in a little wet food and pumpkin puree helps their moisture intake too. I did not realize the food I was originally feeding my cats had a huge crude fat %. Which causes a type of urinary crystals! This food must taste like cat treats because ALL of my cats gobble their food up now, and are always begging for more!

We have tried several different brands of urinary s/o diet foods for our crystal prone fur buddy... and while he preferred the flavors of the others, they did not keep him away from the surgery table. Since getting him adjusted to Royal Canin (nearly 2 years ago), he has had no blockages and no signs of crystal formation. Emergency surgery had become an annual to semi-annual occurrence until we switched to Royal Canin. Our vet recommended it from the get-go, and I wish we had switched him over sooner. 10/10 recommend.

Odin had several urinary tract infections. It was so distressing to see my year old kitten in such pain, just to pee. He was prescribed RC Urinary Diet including the dry food. I didn't think he'd eat it. I figured he'd turn up his nose and move on BUT NO! He LOVES it. And he has been pain and infection free for 3 years!

All cats on same diet due to one with urinary stone issues. Cats love it, but it is pricey when 4 cats eat it. However, it constipates the male cats for some reason, even thought they have 2 running water options, and 4 water bowls in the house. My cat was so impacted he had to be sedated to remove hard packed stool. We have now switched to a high fiber so/ox diet.

My poor kitty was very sick and needed prescription urinary health food. I had never used Chewy before, I didn't even know prescription food was a thing since none of my pets have never been sick like this before. Within one week of being one this food, I noticed a huge difference in his demeanor and all his symptoms had lessened drastically. He acclimated to the new food and its taste very easily. Within 2 weeks he was back to his usual chaotic, orange cat shenanigans.

After a scary episode of blockage with one of my male cats, he of course is now on a prescription diet. He had a remaining stone in his bladder which this food seems to be helping to dissolve. Unfortunately, there is no getting around the high price. However, it is extremely palatable, so much so the rest of the household is turning their nose up at their high-quality food and wanting this one as well!

Prescribed to one cat who loves dry food. Vet said we could give to our other cat as well for added benefits. Everything cleared up with our other cat and they get very excited when they see the bag. Kibble is average size, a tiny bit bigger than their old food, but they don't mind. Thankfully it slows them down because they go for mouthfuls every time.

My cat isn’t the pickiest eater, which is good, but I feel like even picky eaters would take to this food pretty well. It’s simple and bland, although I do feel bad he can’t have his lobster Mac and cheese cat treats anymore. LOL but overall this food has kept my soul kitty alive and well for the last 9 months and I couldn’t be any more grateful than I currently am. If I had lost him in the way I almost did back in October I, MYSELF, would have carried him over the rainbow bridge. I’ve had lots of different fur babies growing up (lost a few) and still to this day, don’t get me wrong I absolutely love every single one and it was extremely heartbreaking losing the ones I did, but the connection I have with this particular kitty, Benny, is something indescribable. He is my whole everything.
