It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day.
Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Can Food Help My Itchy Cat?
Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your cat's coat. Skin issues in cats can be due to food sensitivities.
About Food Sensitivities
Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a cat of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

Signs of Food Sensitivity
Sensitivities to the proteins in your cat's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.

It really works!
By SKoz on Feb 14, 2021
I wasn't excited about the price, or the thought of starting cat on prescription diet. However, he was miserable and threw up every day for 5 weeks after we adopted him from the humane society. We tried a wide variety of things (elevated dishes, slow feed, digestive enzymes, time of day) and different foods (dry/wet, various brands, grain free, homecooked). All I can say is that cat has not had even one vomit since the day we started this and it's been 2 weeks. He (cat) is feeling great and enjoying his new life. I (human) am so relieved that we found a solution and to not be cleaning up vomit every single day!

Pricey But Worth It
By AmieS on Feb 28, 2021
One of our cats had chewed/licked off most of her belly and leg hair. After trying an allergy med for several months (that worked well initially) and fish oil supplements with no luck, we decided to try this before doing allergy testing. After a full month of only being on this food (no treats, no wet food), she finally has hair growing back in all places and has stopped chewing! I was worried about our cats liking the food, but both of them ate it without a problem from the start.

So far, so good.
By Rachel on Feb 2, 2021
My two 13 year old companions began eating this food about 2 weeks ago. So far, I have not seen them regurgitate or have bloody stools as they would on occasion with Hill's Science diet 11+. One of them was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 5 months ago and after begining her new lifelong daily medication I noticed a substantial drop in her activity, appetite and interest levels. I thought it was due to the medication slowing down her hormones-as they were suppose to, but it turns out she has some GI issues. Which is why her veterinarian prescribed Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein. These last 2 weeks I have noticed she is much more active, playful and her appetite has increased-which is what My two 13 year old companions began eating this food about 2 weeks ago. Happy Cat and owner
By KathiM on Feb 22, 2021
Vet prescribed this food for our Tuxedo cat that had developed digestion/possible food allergy problems and after trying everything we could think of, decided to try this. I wasn't sure he would eat it (talk about opinionated - sheesh), but he took to it right away. Other than being [slightly] confused about how much to feed our furry kid, we have been very pleased with the results so far (6 wks on this food).

Cats eat this right up!
By Gina on Feb 16, 2021
Both of my cats have allergies and sensitive stomachs, so this has definitely helped in that regard. One cat also has urinary crystals and this product has the s/o index. I like Royal Canin because it’s an established brand with plenty of research done on the products. The cats went from Blue Buffalo LID turkey and potato to this product and there’s been improvement in vomiting.

Would highly recommend for IBD cat over Hills Z/D
By Charlie on Jan 21, 2021
We took in a stray cat 6 months ago and he's had diarrhea/soft stool since. Anyways $2,000 later no one knows what he has and I was getting tired of wiping him 5-6 times a day when he'd go to the bathroom and have poo all over his butt (which would then get on the couch, window sills, his tree, etc.). We were about to surrender him and the vet at the animal shelter shared with us that the food given to us by the previous vet (Hill's Prescription Diet z/d) is not truly a hypoallergenic food and to go with Royal Canin HP. Within a week his stool is completely back to normal and he loves it! And thank you Chewy our car was out of service and having it delivered was a life saver. Thank you!!

Prescription cat food
By ShariAnn on Feb 5, 2021
My vet was out of my prescription cat food and I just missed the deadline to order for the following week. They recommended I order it from Chewy so I didn't have to wait till they placed their next order. It was so much easier than running to my vet to pick-up the food and the price was about the same. Chewy contacted my vet for authorization and it was delivered to my door 2 days later. Such an easy process! I don't know why I haven't been doing this longer!

Expensive but worth every penny
By Kathleen on Feb 2, 2021
my cat has to go to UC Davis for a medical condition that took almost three years to diagnose . he was vomiting and had loose stool for years we struggled to make him feel better . once we got the diagnosis and the prescription for this food there was no turning back he is happy and feeling great ! I free feed and this is the only food that my autistic cat with IBS does not have loose stool want to! It’s definitely worth the money and I’m grateful that it’s made my cat feel so much better

Life-saving for cats with digestion problems
By Asher on Jan 18, 2021
Hydrolyzed protein food has changed my oldest cats' lives for the better. One of my cats has recurring pancreatitis issues, while the other has IBS, and has had to get rounds of B-12 shots in the past just to eat regularly. Once my veterinarian switched us to this food, all of my cats eat with very little issue. My cat with pancreatitis has not needed hospitalization ever since (several years now!) and my cat with IBS has much fewer vomiting spells. Spare no expense to try this food if you have a cat with similar digestion problems - it could really give quality of life back to them if a vet suggests it as an option. Royal Canid Prescription Cat Food
By Bernard on Feb 15, 2021
The prescription cat food we need for one of our cats, Royal Canin Veterinary Diet, was available and in stock on the Chewy website. That was really nice as it was unavailable at retail outlets in Knoxville TN. Ordering was straightforward, the Rx submittal worked without difficulty, and the cat food bag was delivered about four days later. Great service.
