Begin introducing Naturally Free Organic Layer 16% gradually at 20 weeks of age to allow for a slow adjustment to the new feed formula. This is more important when switching from a different type of feed such as crumbles or pellets as your chickens may not immediately know how to consume a mash style feed.
Refill feeders only after all feed has been consumed. Trough feeders provide the best access to our whole grain feeds. Be sure to offer plenty of Cluckin Good Layer Grit and you can begin to supplement oyster shell at this age.
Our 18% feeds contain more fines than our standard 16% feeds due to the extra macronutrients involved. For this reason, fermenting this feed, while not required, is a win-win solution to more nutrients for the animals using it.

This is the first time I got a bad batch of feed, it looked like ground chaff swept up from the floor and half grain. I’m a little disappointed with scratch n peck on quality control and this bag will only last half as long as the regular bags I ordered. Recommendation will be a no Will change if next batch is better.
My Hens love this! Looks like great quality! I will be ordering more n the future
I did my research, follow other chicken keepers, and have kept my own for several years now. Scratch and Peck puts out a wonderful feed. It is textured, clean, and soaks magically. Smells great, and my chickens mob me at the door for it. A little pricy, but well worth the health benefits!
If you wanted a powder that your chickens leave behind in their bowl, this is the feed for you! The bag is like 90% a powder that doesn’t get eaten. Wish there was more grain versus this stuff.
I expect to get chicken feed on auto ship and it always canceled why that likey dog feed also don't understand why chewy dropping the ball all the time
I usually buy this local, did not know Chewy had it, This is the only chick food I buy, tried the cheaper Purina versions etc and my Hens stopped laying so went back to this brand, Its expensive but the cheap food doe not get good results
The bag of food I got looked like it had been full of live mill worms. Everything was so crumbled that it literally was flying away with the wind. I had to give the chicken's twice as much food as normal because there was so much inedible peices. I will not be buying this again.
I have chickens and ducks and wanted to find a good, organic food for both. I prefer pellets but thought I’d give this a try. The food was very fine and dusty, much finer than crumbles (other than the bits of grain). The food got scattered everywhere, huge mess, definitely an invite for rodents. It also left a fairly thick coating of wasted food on the bottom of their water bowls (from the ducks drinking after they ate), not something I normally see at all.
I am not really sure about the complaints in regards to too much powder and not enough seeds. I had to purchase a different scratch feed from a local supply store and I literally paid for dust! And some feed. (I ran out, and my local feed store no longer carried Scratch and Peck feed) My poor birds were NOT happy with me for giving them that feed over this. I am so grateful that I can get Scratch and Peck again and I have learned to keep plenty on hand just in case. I do not want to pay for dust and unhappy chickens ever again! Also, have noticed that quality of eggs are incredible in comparison to other feeds.
I've been buying Scratch and Peck Organic Chicken feeds for about a little over a year. I love that it's organic, soy-free, can get the feeds without corn, and it's made with good ingredients. Protein could be a bit higher, but it's adequate. What I don't like it's how much powder (finely ground seeds, husks, sticks and supplements). It seems that each new bag I get consist of more powder than seeds. I do not recommend to feed this food to your chickens dry, as they won't eat the powder, only the seeds, so won't get the nutrients found in the powder. This food is only good to feed as a mash, just wet it enough to make the powder stick to the seeds. That's the only way the chickens will eat the powder and get the adequate nutrients. Even though this food is expensiveand too powdery, I continueto buy it for my chickens because I haven't found a better feed, most chicken feeds have soy and/or corn as the main ingredient and/or grain by-products (grain waste products). But I'm very disappointed at the excessive amount of powder found in my last bag, seems like more than half the bag is powder, with very little amount of seeds. If that had been my first bag of this feed, I would have sent it back for a refund and given it 1 star rating. But I'm hoping the next bag won't be as powdery. If it is, I will lower my rating of this food.
