awesome until it's not
My 7 month dobie mix thought this was the best thing ever for about a month and then suddenly completely lost interest. Breed-specific trainer advice was that she might like a puzzle that works her brain a little bit more, like a snuffle mat. When she was in the puppy phase where laying down was a rarity, it was really nice to get a 15-20 min break because it just takes time to get food out of the toy. It is kind of loud though, and as she got bigger she learned how to drag it around and slam it.
If your dog is smart it may be annoying
This has been a weird, most of the time good, toy for my dog. She plays with it and gets frustrated. So she has figured out that, if she picks it up and slams it into the floor and corners of the wall, the treats come out faster. Or I , and my downstairs neighbor, get so annoyed she gets the treats. If your dog is smart and likes to annoy people beware.
Best treat dispenser ever!
I have this in large and small size and love it so much it is my go to gift for friends with new puppies. Dispensing hole is adjustable- I use small bite puppy kibble to fill them. Dogs love them. They are a bit loud as the dogs roll them into walls but I have purchased what I thought were quieter treat balls and none work as well as the Bob-a-Lot. Most had holes that were too large and not adjustable so the food just fell out of them. The Bob-a-Lot is just a better a better product.
Nice toy that is semi durable
Works great for dispensing food and treats. I have 2 sizes and both work well for my dog. She is an avid chewer and has kind of gnawed the heck out of it but it still works. My trainer recommended I feed her dinner in this and it works keeping her occupied and making her eat slow.
Not so great
This toy is really heavy, hard plastic and it makes a ton of noise. If I lived above someone, it would certainly annoy that neighbor. As others say, it takes a while to fill bc the top opening is so small - something I can’t understand bc you’re supposed to put the cap back on. Why not make that opening larger then? Finally, my dogs are able to move the sliding door so that the treats (their kibble) dispense really fast. It’s not what I’d hoped for.
Recommended if you have kids
We have a ball with an open hole and my 8 month old loved to roll the treats and food out of it This one stays in a smaller area and has a little trap door that I can close. Great buy!
Jack loves it
I've had this thing for years. Jack always gets super excited when I get it out. When I use it, I just put his regular kibble in it. He's a 20 lb rat terrier. He loves puzzle toys, in general. This is one of his favorites. I don't use it all the time and I never leave it out if I'm not in the same room as him - same as any type of toy that could cause damage to him if he managed to tear it up. I've even shared it with others so their dogs could try it out. Every other dog is been shared with has loved it as well. I've advised the other people to take it up as soon as it's empty. It has teeth marks on it, but no one has chewed it to bits because it gets taken up and put away after it's emptied.
Better than I expected!
I kept seeing the Bob-a-Lot the past few years but didn't really know if it would hold my girl's attention. She is very food motivated and figures out the other treat toys with slides/flaps so quickly it is never worth the time it takes to fill them with treats! This treat toy has been a win, of course, she figured it out quickly, but it keeps her occupied until the kibble is gone. Gracie is a picky eater and halfway through a bag of dog food she loses interest, so we spend a lot of money trying to keep her fed. A pleasant perk of this toy is that if we put half her food in the Bob-a-Lot from time to time her regular kibble seems like a treat. We don't do it every day, so she will still get excited when we break it out.
Great as a slow feeder
My pug vacuums down his food -- doesn't chew it, just sucks it up and swallows. We've tried various bowls and methods (including sitting there feeding him one kibble at a time. We have the larger one of these -- we call them Weebles, because they don't fall down (old people joke). Anyway, this has made mealtime SO much better! Not only is his brain getting stimulated but he's not scarfing his food like before. My only issues with it are: 1) wish it was easier to clean, and 2) wish it was easier to fill (need to pour it very slowly so kibble doesn't clog the little hole). Both of those could be solved if the upper and lower portions unscrewed. Still, this is the best thing we've found for our vacuum pup.
My pup loves this one! The only problem is the adjustable opening does not adjust so we have to make sure the treats are small enough to get through the size it's stuck on but otherwise...big sucess
