Instructions

'Maintaining your Filtration System

Changing the Filter Cartridge: 1. Open the system's Carbon Filter Access Door and lift out Carbon Filter Carrier. 2. Hold Carbon Filter Carrier above Carbon Filter Access Door for a few seconds to drain water. Then invert Carbon Filter Carrier at a 45-degree angle and carry to waste bin. 3. Squeeze Carbon Filter Carrier Handle to drop dirty Carbon Filter Cartridge into waste bin. 4. Insert clean Carbon Filter Cartridge into Carbon Filter Carrier (blue-colored floss should face the front). Drop Carbon Filter Carrier into system and close Carbon Filter Access Door.

Cleaning the Bio-Scrubber Insert: Note: Do not dispose of the Bio-Scrubber Insert unless it is damaged. It is a permanent part of the filtration system and not meant to be replaced or disturbed. If your Bio-Scrubber Insert should ever become clogged as evidenced by restricted water flow or water flowing over the top of the Bio-Scrubber Insert, follow the procedure below.

  1. Remove the system's Hood and remove the Bio-Scrubber Insert.
  2. Gently rinse the Bio-Scrubber Insert under cool water to dislodge clogs. Do not use soap or any other cleaner. Note: Do not remove the beneficial bacteria growing on the Bio-Scrubber Insert. These bacteria turn toxins into harmless comlbs.
  3. Re-insert Bio-Scrubber Insert and snap system Hood back into place.
  1. Attach strainer (and extension tubes, if necessary) so that strainer will be no closer than 2 inches to aquarium gravel once the system is hanging on aquarium frame.
  2. Hang system on aquarium frame. Be sure aquarium water is at or above the minimum water level indicated on system's motor assembly.
  3. Once system is properly in place, plug filtration system into outlet being sure to arrange a drip loop with the power cord.
  4. Squeeze start button on Time strip® and place it in compartment on filter hood so that the white area shows through the window. The bottom of the white timeline will darken approximately 30 seconds after activation. (Important: If bottom of timeline does not darken, then the Time strip® has not been activated and you need to squeeze the button against)

    Blissful quietness...

By Happy on Apr 25, 2021

It is so quiet, with a quick and easy set up! Extremely happy with this product, because with the last filter system I purchased, it was hard to get started (priming is the pits) and loud. Hopefully, it lasts a long time.

    It works okay

By Alyssa on Feb 18, 2021

The only reason why I say is that it works okay is because I had my beta in a 10-gallon tank and I used this filter. The filters got really dirty quick and I would go through filters cartridges like crazy so i was thinking maybe the filter was too small for the tank he was in even though it was meant for a 10-20 gal. It works great on my boyfriends fishtank though. He has a bunch of find in it (20 gal) but he also has algae eaters and bottom feeders that help with the grime too.

    Stopped working

By Catie on Feb 21, 2021

I have 2 of these filters, and one decided today to stop working. I've had one for about a year and the other 6 months. Work great but I've got no clue why one decided to stop working.

    Moves Water, Fish are Happier

By Carolyn on Sep 27, 2020

This filter provides over-filtration for my tank, which is great. My fish immediately seemed to like it, and it is pretty quiet considering how much it is doing. The intake tube has an adjustable length, so it can accommodate different tank heights. I am still waiting to see how difficult cleaning it will be; There are 2 disposable activated carbon filters held between removable plastic pieces, and 2 mechanical filter media areas that look like spikey plastic.

Tetra Whisper EX Aquarium Power Filter Review

    By 1000 on Oct 12, 2020

Overall it is a really great Filter keeps the water clean. It sometimes causes too much movement in the water and my betta dislikes it so I just used a sponge so there would not be so much current. My filter came broken, i contacted chewy and they quickly fixed that problem so I’m very happy with my purchase and the service of chewy.

    Broke within six months

By Stef on Aug 25, 2020

Spent far too much money on a filter that didn’t even last six months. It was fine a week ago and just suddenly shut down yesterday. Was working with a 50 gallon long with two small fish in it (one giant danio, one rainbow shark) and was still clean. Suddenly quit working and won’t start back up. It was nice and quiet while it lasted but really not remotely happy to have had it shut off suddenly and refuse to turn back on.

    Died after 2 months

By good on Aug 1, 2020

I don't know what happened, but the motor just gave out. It worked really well when it ran. I'm buying another because it is fairly cheap anyway. hopefully it was just a fluke.
