Versele-Laga Nature Forage Blend Grain-Free Rabbit Food, 3-lb bag

My holland lop, Gertrude, is a greedy little girl and loves foraging mixes like the “Food From the Wild” dried herbs and flowers from Kaytee. I thought this would be a higher quality product for her and something to mix in as a bit of enrichment. She is completely uninterested. It does encourage foraging, because she tends to nose all around this to avoid it. I hate to just throw it out have such a large amount of this product go to waste, so I’m now adding it to her litter box. Oh well.

To any beginner bunny parents it is not usually recommended to give your buns foraging mixes like this. However I still buy this for a few reasons: 1. I think the main reason foraging mixes aren’t recommended are because buns will pick the sugary stuff and and leave the more nutritious pellets. BUT my buns eat every single bit of this mix, so I’m not terribly worried about them not getting nutritional value. 2. I give my buns pellets mainly as a supplement to their diet, so I’m only giving them a small amount either daily or every other day depending on how active they’ve been. I was buying expensive foraging mixes to mix into their food bowls anyway, so this made more sense. 3. I mix it in with the regular adult rabbit food from this brand (I have a big container with a lid so I’ll empty a bag of each in and mix together) so the ratio in the mix has more nutritional pellets. Do you research and talk to your vet but this is what works for my buns! Just had their annual check-up and both buns are healthy as can be. I will say my buns refuse all other brands now that I’ve introduced this brand of pellets to them and it’s not sold in bulk, so be warned if your budget can’t sustain it.
