This is the only non-prescription CKD food my 14 years old, recenly diagnosed with CKD, cat eats
Good ingredients, good nutrition, and according to 5 of 6 cats, good taste too.
My 3 cats and feral cat really enjoy this. Why the one star??? The pouches have such a skimpy amount of meat/fish. Normally one 3 oz pouch is sufficient for each of my cats’ morning meal. Other brands pack so much meat, the meat reaches the rim of the pouch. But NOT WERUVA! You will have to scrape the bag of these pouches to get a little more than one ounce of meat! This means 2/3 is “gravy” which is really WATER!!! For Weruva’s mid-range price, it is NOT WORTH IT! I have had to supplement these pouches with another source of protein. That gets expensive! Spend the extra dollars with something else. See my pic for reference.
This appears to be a win in the flavor department for Minnie Mouse. She will finish her plate each time. Chick Magnet flavor has gravy, chicken and fish which seems to be a winning combination for my girl!
I first looked at this food because I saw it suggested on the Cole and Marmalade page. I liked the idea of human grade food. I have 10 cats. One is on a prescription diet, and 3 won't eat wet food, so I have been trying different flavors of this with the rest. They had been eating a combination of some dry meals (Royal Canin indoor) and some Tiny tasters. I had some trouble getting the tiny tasters -- and was looking for an alternative or back up. I feed 3 times a day because the smaller meals seem to help reduce throw up. So far the only flavor none of the cats like is the duck. I was surprised that several liked the ones with pumpkin. I was also surprised by the.... whole food appearance of this food. It seriously looks like normal shredded chicken breast. I also saw some chunks of fish that were clearly identifiable as fish. Coming from other brands that are more like a mystery paste - or a mystery paste with chunks - I was impressed. The gravy is a huge hit with my cats - and makes it easy to add the liquid joint supplement for my seniors. I haven't fed it long enough to see changes in health for better or worse. I like the the convenient storing, less packaging trash, and feeding of pouches - but because this food is a very loose gravy and then chunks of meat - it's fairly easy to spill gravy when opening. You could use scissors. Some bits of meat stick inside the pouch. If you wanted to get more, you could use a spoon to scrape it out. The pouches would be nearly impossible to divide. For example, they say to feed 1 oz for every pound of body weight - divided into two feedings. I have a 10 pound cat. If you just empty the pouches, it would be very hard to divvy up the gravy and chunks accurately. It could be their suggestions aren't accurate. I haven't (and might not) switch over to it being the sole food so I will update if I change anything.
It's my cat's first time trying Weruva product, and she loved it! And the delivery was super fast! I totally recommend it.
All 7 like this food. Good as a topper or meal. Can be used as a snack, using a tablespoonful or so.
I have 2 cats. One was constantly throwing up after eating dry food and had the worst breath. I switched him to Chick Magnet and he’s doing great. He loves it and now my other cat is all over it too. He rarely throws up now and his breath although still a little stinky doesn’t smell like garbage. Only criticism is the price because you need about 3 pouches a day per cat if using as solo food.
I made a mistake buying this new brand, and didn't realize this wasn't pate. I gave it to a friend for her cats.
More gravy than food. Cats were ok eating it. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
