This is the highest quality canned cat food you will find on the market. No gums or nasty ingredients that are known to trigger intolerances in cats, and a fantastic novel protein to trial for IBD. This food changed my cats life after a flare that led to an IBD diagnosis. He got his energy back, moisture intake increased, and his itching decreased considerably. The huge downside to this food besides the cost are the constant supply issues. This is a fantastic food to stabilize cats with and trial a new protein, but it is not practical to feed on its own as the sole diet. I now feed this in rotation 1-2 times a week for my boy as a treat, and have instead transitioned him to a balanced raw diet. I cannot praise this product enough. I hope the supply issues improve, and pray it never goes down in quality.
Personally, I believe Ziwi Peak makes high quality canned cat food and, while I primarily feed my cats raw (Darwin’s Pet), I do like to augment their diet with novel proteins and the convenience of canned food for two or three meals a week. However, the CONSUMER is the most important and the ones consuming the food are my cats who are not in love with venison. Yes, most of it gets eaten, but there is always some untouched - there is not unfettered enthusiasm manifested like when I serve Ziwi Peak Lamb and Mackerel.
The very first time I gave this to Sox he gobbled it up. Unfortunately, ever since then he won't go near the stuff. And I can't really blame him; it smells really awful! I guess I will be donating the rest.
My wonderful cat has a very sensitive tummy & loves the venison and it agrees with him!!! Only issue is the high cost.
We had to try several limited-ingredient diets for our itchy kitty before we found Ziwi, now she won’t eat anything else! Only downside is the price but I do understand why it is expensive, it’s very high quality and sustainable. Thank you Ziwi!
My cat has IBD and is prone to pancreatitis. I constantly switch the proteins I serve on a daily basis. He is doing very well on this food. It is nutrient dense and keeps him satisfied longer. All three of my cats love venison too. Glad I found Ziwi Peak.
And so do my cats. I've not had a single nose turn to these foods. As well, I never have issues with digestive upset which happens with every other wet brand I've tried. (And I work in a pet store, I've tried every 'premium' wet food) Hands down, Ziwi is the best quality I've found. I mix it with freeze dried raw, some CPD(Nuvita) and we're all set. I recently tried venison as I wanted to rotate proteins, everyone chowed down. One kitty must've of liked it TOO much as she ate too fast and proceeded to vomit. I also like that due to the fact Chewy did not have the 24 case, I had to buy the 12 (which WOULD have been more expensive) but they offered 10$ off in order to compensate. This company is hands down, amazing. Ziwi and Chewy, keep it up!
Neither cat will take more than a couple of bites although it seems to be a very high quality food. I also bought the lamb/rabbit and the same result. If you read the reviews some cats love it, some wont eat it. Go figure. I bet dogs would like it and the raccoons certainly do!
My 11 year old cat has a protein allergy. Venison is the first novel protein that he's been able to tolerate well. I originally tried feeding him Instinct venison with some success (fewer skin symptoms) but the quality was hit or miss with each can. Lots of bone chips, dry meat, etc. We switched to Ziwi and not only does he absolutely LOVE this food, but his fur is growing back and his ears already look cleaner just a few days in. I'm hopeful this product stays in stock because we have finally found an option we both feel good about! This food does have an organ-meat/gamey smell to it but that's normal considering the ingredients.
My cat likes the venison recipe, but I have noticed she wants to eat more often now. She either likes it better than all the other foods I have given her over her 13 years and just wants to eat more, or it isn't as filling as other foods. It is very expensive food so it doesn't make me happy to indulge her (even though I do it.)
