What is the minimum water depth that is needed to run this filter? Also, when it’s operating, is it quiet?
Answer by ChewyOct 18, 2020
For this filter to function properly it must be fully submerged. It can be installed vertically or horizontally in the tank.

I have a 20 gallon tank with 2 turtles. One is about 4" in diameter. The other is about 6. Which filter is best?
Answer by ChewyAug 10, 2020
This filter is designed to be the go-to filter for Turtle tanks up to 30 gallons. It also works great for filtering Box Turtle “ponds” or aquatic Amphibian tanks. The 318 Filter provides a combination of Mechanical, Chemical, and Biological filtration, and is fully submersible with easy to change filter cartridges. Dual intake ports help prevent clogging from debris.

What filters go with this so I can buy extra?
Answer by ChewyAug 19, 2020
At this time, replacement filter media is available directly from the manufacturer.

DOES THIS 318 FILTER WORK HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL
Answer by ChewyMay 02, 2022
This filter is completely submersible and can be laid on the tank floor or on the substrate. It can be used vertically or horizontally, as long as the openings are not blocked.

Not for evryone

My turtle resides in a small outdoor pond (15 gal). I'm always trying to find room for him and I thought this small filter may solve my room issue. But after a couple of days, it became apparent that this filter may work well in an aquarium it does not do well in a pond. It couldn't keep up with the mess my turtle makes in his pond and I had to go back to a larger filter. So this is not one for ponds, only aquariums.

Awesome filter for fired belly toads set up!!!!

Works great in my paludarium with my fired belly toads. I keep it fully submerged with a rock on top. If it starts making sounds, I just add more water. I clean it about every two months. Keeps the tank clean and the water circulating. I would definitely recommend this filter!!!

Amazing!!!

Literally WOW! This filter cleared up my tank in about 24 hours! It wasn’t that messy, but you could definitely tell the difference. Now I don’t have to worry about changing my turtle’s water out every few weeks. 10/10!

Good filter for turtles

I like this filter for turtles (as opposed to fish, for example) because you place it at the bottom of the tank, so it is good for turtle aquariums where the water is very shallow. You have to regularly add water to the tank because it evaporates and you never want the filter to be exposed to the air, where it can make a lot of noise and eventually malfunction. I had 2 of these filters for several years. You have to clean them regularly every month or so, and replace them maybe every 2-3 years, but they work. I have a third aquarium with another turtle, without the filter, and what a difference!

THE BEST FILTER FOR TURTLES

I had this filter for 7 years and maintained my 30 gallon tank clean and without bad odor, those bad feedbacks maybe have bad luck, but the filter does an excellent job, I recommend this filter to anyone that doesnt want to keep changing the water, I change my water every 3 to 4 months. Here are two pics of my 7 years old filter and crystal clear water.Trust me, it works.!!
