Learn More About Advantage II From Our Team of Experts

Important Information

Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your pet has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. It may take up to 30 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

About Advantage II for Dogs

Get the Advantage Over Fleas

Advantage II topical flea treatment and prevention for dogs kills fleas on your dog within 12 hours, and it continues to protect for 30 days. It’s easier to use than hard-to-swallow pills—simply apply the convenient drops once a month. Best of all, Advantage II is available without a prescription.

How Advantage II for Dogs Works

The active ingredients in Advantage II for Dogs (imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen) spread over the skin and hair coat. Fleas are killed through contact, so they don’t have to bite your dog to die. Do not use on cats.

Flea Treatment and Prevention

Advantage II doesn't just treat fleas––it breaks the flea lifecycle to prevent reinfestation.

Reliable Flea Protection

These flea drops kill adult fleas, flea larvae, flea eggs, and chewing lice.

Same-Day Effectiveness

Advantage II kills fleas on dogs within 12 hours, and it continues to prevent reinfestations for four weeks.

No Prescription Needed

You don’t have to go to the vet to get quality flea protection for your dog—simply buy and apply.

Fragrance-Free

This flea topical formula is fragrance-free and waterproof 24 hours after application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use Advantage II on My Dog?

Advantage II is for dogs 7 weeks of age and older. The product comes in four sizes: Small Dog (3-10 lbs.), Medium Dog (11-20 lbs.), Large Dog (21-55 lbs.), and Extra Large Dog (over 55 lbs.). Choose the right size based on your dog’s weight. Not for use on cats.

How Do I Apply Advantage II?

Break the seal on the tube, then part the hair on your dog’s back between the shoulder blades to show the skin. Squeeze the tube to expel the entire contents directly onto the skin. The number of application spots will depend on the weight of your dog—see product label for detailed instructions.

I used to use Advantage. I'd like to try it again but now there is Advantage 2. What is the difference?

Is this safe to reapply initially after 14 days? And then monthly after fleas are no longer seen

Answer by ChewyNov 26, 2020
Under normal conditions the product is effective for a month. However, in case of severe flea infestation, retreatment may be necessary earlier than 4 weeks. Do not retreat more often than once every 7 days. After flea control is attained, return to a monthly retreatment schedule.

For some reason, this gets better reviews than Frontline. I have been battling fleas for over a year. Yes, I am doing everything I am supposed to. I can’t afford to give prescription flea meds to 6 cats. However I did use them for 3 months with no results. I should have stuck with the Frontline, as it actually works pretty well for 3 weeks. Not sure when this nightmare will end!

Tried this litter to compare to corn litter. Corn litter wins on all accounts. This has urine smell, corn litter no smell. This litter price per bag is lower than corn litter however corn litter clumps in hard golf size balls and this litter clumps into a softball size glob that breaks apart and sticks to box. Because it uses more litter it is not cheaper than corn litter. I bought 2 bags tried one and returned the other. Only going to use corn litter.

This brand works on my dog keeps the fleas off a little longer than a month. Now that being said I purchased some on eBay... didn't work as well... purchase more on eBay turns out it was water...yes water. No smell and no taste. Water ! So if you have experienced issues with advantage...The problem isn't the advantage brand the problem is you're getting knockouts that's not real Advantage. You absolutely MUST buy from a reputable place and I do recommend chewy. ADVANTAGE IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

We have generally always used Frontline Gold for our dogs, in the battle to control fleas (3 dogs, indoor / outdoor lifestyle). We usually only use during seasonal periods as I'm not a proponent of pumping my dogs with drugs of any kind. But one of our dogs is 13 and I decided to try something new, that may be a little more gentle on his system, given some of his health conditions. Advantage II has actually created more problems. Over the past 2 months, we continue to find fleas on our dogs, my wife and I are getting bitten--where we used to have control over these disgusting little pests, it's now completely out of control. A literal infestation broke out as this Advantage was useless. For now, it's back to daily vacuuming and constant cleaning of dog bedding until we can get our boys back on Frontline and get this back under control. Moral of the story--if you have a med that is working, just stay on it. I do not recommend Advantage II!

Dogs still have fleas!

Advantage was actually recommended by my vet’s office. My dogs did not have one day of relief. I’m so upset and tired of fighting fleas. My dogs are just miserable
