What is the difference between Advantage Topical Solution and Advantage II?

We have added an insect growth regulator, pyriproxyfen, to Advantage II.

What is an insect growth regulator (IGR)?

An IGR, such as pyriproxyfen, inhibits the development of flea eggs. It also offers additional larvicidal properties when compared with imidacloprid alone.

How does pyriproxyfen work?

Pyriproxyfen mimics the juvenile growth hormone of fleas. This hormone prevents immature flea stages from molting into the next stage of the life cycle and keeps them from developing into adult fleas.

Why is it important to use a product with an IGR?

With an IGR as part of your flea control, the flea life cycle is disrupted at multiple stages through different active ingredients and modes of action. This is often referred to as integrated flea control (IFC). The addition of an IGR to Advantage II adds larvicidal and ovicidal properties to target flea infestations and kill all flea life stages.

Is Advantage II waterproof?

Yes, there is no need to reapply the product after weekly swimming or a bath. For best results, use a non-detergent shampoo.

  • Didn’t do the job.

    By on

Used this on my 12 pound dog. About one week later we noticed a large black area just above his tail and he was rubbing himself on our furniture. We were shocked to find a HUGE patch of fleas and flea eggs in that spot! I immediately bathed and brushed him then took him to our vet. Our vet said he no longer carries any brand of topical flea control. He gave him a 3-month chewie flea control pill instead. My pet gobbled it up and seems to be tolerating it very well. Best of....no fleas!

I have a holland lop and flea products are also difficult to find. This was one of the products that were recommended for rabbits and isn't harmful. Works well, took care of the fleas and he is just fine!

Although this product is a lil pricey, it works very well. My dogs had flea problem. And they didn’t seem to be bothered by fleas no more after couple days of using this. Recommend this brand.

  • Better than others

This product is better than the others That’s the good news The bad: Way too expensive and really doesn’t last a full 30 days. You have to overlap about 5-6 days to keep off the fleas.

  • Works great

I started using this over frontline after the fleas seemed to be resistant to front line. This works great. Itching stops and no fleas seen on my dogs after 24 hours.

I must admit that Chewy has one of the best customer service departments that I have ever dealt with. I, myself have been in customer service for almost 20 years and this is the first time I have purchased products from Chewy. Not only were they professional at every level, they also sent me a sympathy card from the agent there. We recently lost our Jack Russell to a sudden death. The products I can't say enough about as our new little addition Gracie has been flea free since we applied the dosage prescribed. I would give this company an A+ at every level of service. The delivery time wasn't that bad either. I received my order the very next day. Great company!!

  • IT WORKS!! Many Others Don't

    By on

Unfortunately both my dog and cat had fleas! Since they are inside animals, we didn't realize until it became a very bad problem. We finally figured out that they must have gotten them from the squirrels that visited our carpeted outdoor deck, which we also allowed the pets to visit for fresh air. I tried several other remedies, but to no avail. THANK GOODNESS for advantage II. It took care of the problem for both animals immediately! We use it faithfully now and also screened the deck so the squirrels cannot visit anymore!

I have a lot of clients come to me who's dogs have been diagnosed with tick born disease by their vet and when I ask what flea and tick treatment the dog has been on many say Advantage. While Advantage is a good product and does work as intended it is ONLY FOR FLEAS, It does not protect against ticks. If you live in a tick prone area I recommend looking at other products. • Best Price around

    By on

We recently had to start treating our babies for fleas, as our groomer found them. on both of our dogs. We went to Petsmart and bought this product. It was so expensive that I decided to check Chewy. They were much less expensive, and the last time we took our dogs to the groomer, no fleas. It's affective, and I will continue to purchase from Chewy.

  • I trust the flea treatment from Advantage!

    By on

I trust this flea treatment from Advantage. Before I had a different brand and it made the fur at the application area oily for weeks while the dog looked like he was sick for at least 1 to 2 days. With Advantage the application area is a little "wet" for a day, no other side effects. And the fleas were gone within a day.
