American Journey Kitten Chicken Recipe Grain-Free Dry Cat Food, 5-lb bag

I have a 5 month old kitten and I’ve been buying many different dry food brands for a while now because she never really finishes all her food so it makes me think she isn’t a fan of it, so then I decided to try this one out since I buy this brand for my dog as well why not try it for my kitten! So far she is literally obsessed! She finishes her plate instantly and literally begs for more!! I have never seen her beg for more food until now! This is probably her favorite dry food so far!

It may simply be that chicken upsets their systems but this wasn’t a good change for us. I gifted it to a friend with a new kitten and he seems to like it. Cats are known to be fickle!

I've tried so many grain-free dry cat foods, and American Journey is preferred by my cats (a senior cat and a kitten). I highly recommend it. Price is comparable to other grain-free dry catfoods.

My kitten refused to eat this. I ended up purchasing something local I could return if she wouldn't eat that.

My eight week old kitten, Cesare, eats this food very well. The kibble size is perfect.

Like all AJ dry foods, this is a very decent recipe within this price range that isn’t abysmally inappropriate for cats like most dry cat foods are (although the price has unfortunately increased lately, and this “specialty food” is, of course, priced even higher). That said, for this food in particular, it may not be worth the higher price tag compared to other AJ dry foods (namely the chicken), which are already appropriate for ALL life stages, including kittens. The recipe for this food is nearly identical to the regular chicken recipe, the primary difference being that this food has 39 more calories per cup. Here’s the price break down between the two foods - Regular AJ Chicken (currently priced at $27.10 for a 12lb bag): $2.26/lb || $.56/cup (48 cups total) || $.0014/kcal || AJ Kitten Chicken (currently $19.85 for a 5lb bag) $3.97/lb || $.99/cup (20 cups total) || ~$.0022/kcal || So again, if it’s a struggle to get your kitten to eat enough, the Kitten food is going to be the better choice. If you have a little food hound on your hands and you’re on a tight budget though, then the regular chicken is perfectly fine (bear in mind though, it’s virtually impossible for kittens/cats up to 1 year old to eat TOO much. This isn’t an issue of too many calories, it merely comes down to what you can afford/want to spend). I run a rescue and hospice, and this food is also good for sick or senior kitties who suffer from inappetence due to nausea, etc, making AJ Kitten a semi-affordable, calorie dense food that we can use to supplement their main wet food diet to get some more calories in them, since they don’t have to eat as much as they would the regular chicken. So there you go. Was really hoping AJ would come out with limited ingredient varieties like they have for their dog line before this or their “indoor” formula, but the kitten food certainly has its place nonetheless. … more

Kitty didn't seem to care very much for this product. Thought it would taste wonderful to them but it didn't. Not worth the price.

I have been waiting for American Journey to come out with a kitten formula! I have experienced the AJ adult food in the past and the quality is exceptional. Now that they have kitten food I was excited to try it and my kitten loves it! #ChewyTeamRated

We rescued a stray kitten a few months ago during quarantine. Our older cats eat American journey and she started getting into their food. Glad there’s an option for her with American journey now and she’s digging in, getting the nutrients she needs and is protective of her bowl, haha. #chewyteamrated
