About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

What is the kibble size?

The information says that this is an all-lifestages food but the Blue Buffalo website says it is an adult food?

Is this made in a facility free from allergens?

Answer by ChewyOct 14, 2022
All of Blue Buffalo Natural Veterinary Diets are produced on a line that is dedicated to BLUE diets. While no individual diets have their own individual dedicated line, their NVD HF (Hydrolyzed for Food Intolerance) and their NVD NP (Novel Protein) formulas are produced first before our other NVD formula after a full cleaning and sanitation of the manufacturing equipment. Blue Buffalo assures their HF and NP products are free of evidence of contaminating proteins for an array of known allergens, such as poultry, soy, beef and egg. Natural Veterinary Diet formulas indicated for dermatologic conditions undergo PCR as well as extensive ELISA testing (both at the level of raw ingredients and finished good testing) to ensure they meet our strict standards of being free of protein contaminants before they are released as final products.

Are there probiotics in this?

Answer by ChewySep 14, 2024
This food includes several dried fermentation products, including Dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product. This is a dried prebiotic that is activated upon ingestion and helps to maintain normal bacteria balance in the lower intestine, aids in digestion and helps promote gut health.

Caused my dog an allergic reaction

My vet recommended a hydrolyzed protein feed, so I tried this. Within one week of feeding this feed, my Frenchie was scratching and itching his ears and feet raw

My vet recommended a hydrolyzed protein feed, so I tried this. Within one week of feeding this feed, my Frenchie was scratching and itching his ears and feet raw. This seems like great food, my dogs loved it, but did not work for my dog and caused a vet visit and prednisone to get the reaction under control

Very Reasonably Priced!

My Josie has a food allergy--which requires her to be fed a hydrolized protein diet. Her previous brand was very cost prohibitive as it only came in a 17lb bag!

My Josie has a food allergy--which requires her to be fed a hydrolized protein diet. Her previous brand was very cost prohibitive as it only came in a 17lb bag! With a very high price tag! My Josie is only 10 pounds so needless to say I would be wasting half of the bag before she could finish it. So now I can purchase the 6lb bag, saving money. AND she loves this food! Her coat looks beautiful on it. I would totally recommend this food for any pup that requires a HP diet.

Just started switching from last menu, adding a little bit at a time. But when at halfway mark.. she ate the stuff she had before but skipped alot of this dry food. Along with the canned , same brand food. This morning we added scrambled eggs, she ate the egg, left the dry food.

My dog loves this food!

After trying several types of non-poultry prescription foods, this salmon based food is a real treat! Kylo developed an alergy to poultry and its very hard finding

After trying several types of non-poultry prescription foods, this salmon based food is a real treat! Kylo developed an alergy to poultry and its very hard finding a product with no chicken based products in them. This brand has no poultry and he really enjoys the flavor at a reasonable price for a prescription food. My kylo loves this food and I even use it as a treat.

Cost Effective Hydrolyzed Protein

This is the most cost effective hydrolyzed protein diet we've found. We bounce around brands depending on who has the best cost or deal at the moment. I will say,

This is the most cost effective hydrolyzed protein diet we've found. We bounce around brands depending on who has the best cost or deal at the moment. I will say, my dog does have extra poops on this diet. Not sure what to make of that, but it is what it is. She also got kind of bored of it after a few weeks. She'll still eat it, but isn't quite as enthused with this one as some others.

Great food

Our little dog loves this food. She is very picky. This does require a vet prescription

Excellent for Canine IBD

My standard poodle lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks due to inflammatory bowel disease. He would eat anything. The vet recommended a Hydrolyzed protein diet but he wouldn’t touch the Hill’s formula. When I got the Blue Buffalo Natural Veterinary Diet HF Hydrolyzed kibble he ate a whole bowl without hesitation. I’m so relieved to have found this food. The ingredients are outstanding: Hydrolyzed salmon is the first ingredient (unlike other Rx brands). And the Chewy chat representative helped expedite processing my uploaded Rx.
