Questions & Answers

What are the feeding instructions per weight for this food?
Answer by ChewyJan 22, 2019
Please see feeding instructions below.

Each can seems to have one or two black dots. Could it be mold?
Answer by ChewyFeb 25, 2021
The tiny black dots do occur in a variety of foods. It's a reaction of 2 of the minerals, sulfur and copper, that react in high heat during the canning process. The heat during the canning process is to ensure the meat is safe to eat, and during this process, the sulfur and copper react which creates black specks. It is safe for your pet to eat the food.

Is this ok for a dog with chicken allergies?
Answer by ChewyMay 26, 2019
While this does contain hydrolyzed chicken liver, it's recommended to speak to your vet to find what is best for your pet's current treatment plan.

It lists the minimum fat - what is the maximum fat? My guy needs low fat (pancreatitis)
Answer by ChewySep 05, 2019
The recipes are formulated to target the minimum fat content that is provided in the guaranteed analysis, any deviation from this as-fed percentage would be minimal. Please speak with your veterinarian to ensure this value is low enough to be a suitable diet for your pet.

Good, but too firm

My vet recommended this food to combat my dog's suspected food allergy. She's only been on this for a couple of weeks, so it's too soon to tell if it will help. However, we use it as a moist topper for the same brand as kibble. She likes it and eats it well, but we wish this canned food had a less firm texture - very hard to mix into the kibble because it's just too firm. A more stew-like texture would be helpful.

Vet Diet Canned Dog Food

This was a recommended substitute for our preferred brand of special veterinary diet wet dog food, which is Royal Canin PR. There are evidently supply chain issues. This was our first use of Chewy for a prescription item. The canned meat is mainly used to give pills, or as treats. The consistency of the HA is a rather dry solid texture rather than a ground or softer blend. It is more challenging to use for pills, but is gladly eaten by our dogs.

Very Dense

Got this on recommendation to help our chubby senior pups maybe slim down. Well, they sure would because they won’t eat it. It’s very heavy and dense-kind of like wet concrete. Donated to local shelter, hoping they have some dogs who will eat it.

My dog loves it

My Cavapoo has to be on the hydrolyzed protein diet. But the straight HA kibble bores him. So now I mix some of the soft hydrolyzed protein food with his kibble and he eats it right up. I use a can over 3 days to mix in with his dry food and his stools are still firm and easy to clean up. No more diarrhea! Yay!

What's going on with this food.

Our lab has been eating this RX food for 2 years. 4 cans a day, it gets expensive but works. Lately when opening, some cans have a different texture and smell. Dry and crumbly instead of moist. Called customer service as I was not going to toss 4.00 cans in the trash. Was told to send the open cans back to them! Within a week we ran across 12 cans of the spoiled food and had to ship the open cans back for a refund.

Awfully dry

This food according to the description supposed to be in sauce. You can't hardly get it out of the can. The marketing is incorrect. Chewy does not manufacture the food, but should make sure the description is accurate.

Mold in food

I continue to find mold in most of the cans. I’m not sure what is going on with this food. Bummer because my dog likes it.

Love the new food

My dog has allergies and we had to switch his food. He is a small white furry dog, so food is always an issue. He loves the new food and switched easily.

Dried out dog food

Have this on auto ship for more than a year and the last batch sent almost every can I have opened has been in crumbles instead of a moist can shaped loaf. Dog will hardly eat it.
