Worried About Your Dog’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common and can appear anywhere on your dog’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some dogs.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your dog can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out

Infection

Puppies, older dogs, and dogs that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health concerns.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your dog. These special formulations can:

Support digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

formula change made her sick

My Bernedoodle has had a sensitive stomach and for the last two years has been on this food with no issues. We had finally found the answer to her digestive issues. Similar to other reviews here, when we switched to a new bag, she instantly got sick. Her diarrhea returned. After a visit to the vet and confirmation no infection or parasite, we tried to reintroduce the food and she instantly got sick again. We’re now in the process of transitioning to Purina HA. Extremely disappointed and frustrated with Royal Canine for changing a formula with no notice to the consumers (on a prescription food nonetheless).

Was not planning on my dog being on a Rx diet but here we are. My dog was not a fan of this at first. The kibble is bigger than he would like. Once he realized this was all he was getting he caved. Truly hoping he does not have to be on this for the rest of his life and not because I don't want to pay, but becuase he LOVES his duck jerky and pig ears. Those were perfect for training and a good night time wind me down with the chewing. I wish Royal Canin would make this in a smaller kibble as an option. I almost went to Hill's version of hydrolized protein diet, as they offered it in a smaller kibble. BUT Purina Pro Plan RX is the only one that I can find that does another flavor of the hydrolized protein. My only gripe is these not being uniform--If you are going to make an Rx diet make smaller kibble as an option AND a few more flavors. This is not a Chewy problem though.

When my veterinarian gave me the prescription for Katie's dog food, I immediately sent it off to Chewy without looking at it. In no time chewy called me to tell me it was the wrong prescription. Sure enough they were right and I had the opportunity to go back to my veterinarian to straighten it out. This isn't the only time Chewy has come to my rescue. I treasure this company and am so GRATEFUL for their diligence, expertise, and their genuine concern for their customers. We love Chewy and would go NO WHERE ELSE. Do yourself a favor and give them your business. You will be as grateful as me.

Our poor guy was prescribed this food for 6 weeks before we can reintroduce foods to identify allergies. He’s rarely had diarrhea in his life, but it was nearly constant while on this food. The vet advised us to trust the process and prescribed two courses of Proviable, which was of no help. After 6 weeks, we finally got the approval to switch to Blue salmon based HP, where we have to start the 6 week strict diet all over again. I read several reviews of other dogs having similar issues with this particular food. I regret not researching sooner and being a stronger advocate for my dog.

Our 10 yr old lab, Tess, has food allergies and has been on the hydrolyzed-protein diet for several years. Her severe itching is gone and rarely are we awakened with her vomiting at 2 AM in her crate. When that happens, we can be fairly certain that's she's found something to chow down on at the grandkids house. Great product and always great PROMPT service from Chewy's.

My 13 yr old standard poodle had to change her diet due to inflammatory bowel disease. She has always been a very picky eater and finding food she would eat was difficult, so I was very worried about how she would make the change to a specialized diet. She liked it straight out of the bag! It was still a slow process to get her to go 100% to the diet, but she has and she likes it and is doing very well on it. We are extremely pleased.

Our cat is 16 years old so now needs special Vet-approved food. And he's gotten very picky. So finding a food that he will eat has been quite a journey. Lots of failed efforts (and donations of said failed efforts). Anyway, consider this if your cat has special dietary needs. It works (or is currently working - who knows if he will like it next week, lol) for now.

I guess as everyone is saying, the formula changed?! My dog has had IBD for 5 years and this has been out go-to food. It was such a game-changer for her and it is sadly now causing all kinds of tummy issues - the same issues we sought this food out for in the first place 5 years ago. Not sure what is going on! We sent our bag back and requested a refund, which Chewy thankfully granted.
