Amos is a 1 yo purebred male boxer puppy. From the day we picked him up from the breeder he has never had a solid stool. After 2 bouts of giardia and pancreatitis, Amos went to a GI specialist. The vet recommended Royal Canine Hydrolized pet food. And after only two days, Amos had a formed stool. Since Amos’ IBS small bowel diagnosis, Amos will be a lifetime customer of both the wet loaf and dry kibble. When we are out on our walks people stop us all the time to say what a beautiful coat Amos has and how good looking he is. It’s all in his diet. Chewy contacts our vet as soon as I place the order and I get it within 3 days!! They have a great price on this item and exceptional customer service. We wouldn’t order from anywhere else!!
Picky Frenchie Eater
Unfortunately Ronan was prescribe this HP due to GI issues when we moved three weeks ago but sadly the vet was wrong and his GI issues were caused by another environmental issue we think. He is not a huge fan and only ate a few pieces the first few times. He is very picky about his dry kibble so now we are ordering expensive FarmersDog wet food. Too bad we can’t get a refund. I wish we had a sampler smaller bag to try. Ugh!
Royal Canin Vet Diet HP
I am a bit early in making my final review on the Royal Canin Vet Diet HP Dog Food. I am in the process of moving our Airedale over from Royal Canin Vet Diet Gastrointestinal Diet to the HP. First of all, after trying several foods that Rosie would not eat, or didn't do well, the Gastrointestinal recommended by our Vet was the best by far for her intestinal issues of loose stool, etc. Unfortunately, she also has some skin allergy issues not sure if caused by food, or other. I am attempting to maintain her intestinal health, as well as improve her skin issues at the same time with the new HP. So far after two weeks, now feeding 50/50, her stool has improved over good to excellent, and she absolutely loves the taste of the new HP (literally attacks the HP bag and not the Gastro) even though it to me smells unlike any dog food you have ever smelled. There are indications her skin issues may be improving as well, but too early to say positively. I am using now 50/50 some canned HP with canned Gastro with the dry of about 1/8th of a can each twice a day at each meal. Obviously the goal is to get to all HP/ both dry and wet, but moving slowly as I want to feed all of her Gastro (pretty darned expensive also). She loves the addition so far. The only catch is the HP is extremely pricey, but if it will avoid a CytoPoint injection once every two to three months, it will be worth it. So far, so good. We'll see.
Hydrolyzed Protein Hydrolyzed Protein HP Dry Dog food
My dog Blaze, a std. poodle, suffered from ear infections for almost 5 yrs. I've been given all kinds of ointments for his ears and none worked. A new vet, looking at his ears, suggested his ear infections were coming from food allergies...he was given good food recommended by the breeder but had constant ear infection. The new Vet felt it was coming from the wrong kind of protein. So his diet was changed. He was first given lamb & brown rice which he did not like! Royal Canin Vet. Diet was recommended and his ears are much better. He 100% loves the food and for me it smells good. I've spent allot of money on vet visits and medication and in the end changing his diet solved the problem. He's much happier and so am I.
My dog was having issues for over a month with her stomach. Diarrhea every single time she would go. My husband and I tried everything. We switched her to chicken and rice, she was on antibiotics for about 2 weeks and no change. We got multiple tests done (blood and stool exam) and she came back positive for c diff in her stool. We didn’t want to give her more antibiotics so the doctor had us switch her to this food. Instantly after she started taking it she started having normal hard poops again. This food has been a life saver! It is safe for her to take long term and she LOVES it so we will probably just keep her on it for good
Saved our lab from skin& anal gland reactions
Our Labrador retriever showed signs of allergies from 6 months to a year ( bumps on belly, red scaly back, anal gland issues). Finally we got her on this food and all symptoms subsided thankfully! She now is on this along with a small dose of apoquel and we have had no allergy flare ups whatsoever!
4, Straight months of diarrhea, $500+ of Veterinarian bills, Different types of Medications, A number of different diets all a wast of time and money. Then a friend recommended Royal Canin Veterinary Diet, after 3, days 100% normal. Is there anything else to say besides, thank you Chewy & Royal Canin Veterinary!
Without this food, i'm not sure if my fur baby would still be alive. Fortunately, he's not a picky eater for the most part. His stomach is finally back to normal, only took us 2.5 years. We spent many days/nights in the ER and Vets office. I spent tons of time and money trying to make him home cooked meals.....most he couldn't even eat. This product is and was a total game changer. If you are struggling like I was with providing your fur baby with something healthy and safe to eat, I highly recommend speaking to your vet about this product and seeing if it's a good fit for your fur baby or fur babies.
fungus in food
i have to purchase this food because my puppy Stella has stomach problems. Stella only had liquid poops until i switched to this food. in the past she has finished 3 bags but with the last bag (different batch number) her food has a terrible smell. upon comparing the two pieces of kibble the new bag has white dots in it. it's mold! i don’t know if Chewy didn't store it properly or if it was exposed in transit but this is unacceptable! the previous bag was fine. the kibble bit is flat and dark brown but the new kibble is deformed, smells funkier than the other and my puppy refuses to eat it. now i have to buy another bag at full price.
Does what you need it to
Pricey? Yes. But absolutely works. We had to put our pup on this for 8 weeks to begin an elimination diet for food allergies and he loved this food and his skin issues were fixed very quickly. We’re still trying to find a different food that works for us but anytime a new food flares his allergies this fixes him right up.
