About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

How many cups of food in the 7lb bag?

Answer by ChewyOct 03, 2025
The 7 pound bag contains approximately 32 cups of food.

The other three hydrolyzed dry foods all say they are formulated for the prevention of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals, this one does not say that anywhere so I was trying to find out if it is?

Answer by ChewyMay 15, 2021
This food is formulated for the prevention of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. We do recommend working with your veterinarian to determine if the diet would be an appropriate choice for your pet.

He's always liked seafood particularly Salmon, but the vet started him on hydrolyzed chicken, then soy. I should add the symptom was potentially itchiness (he groomed all the fur off his belly and rear legs but we weren't sure if it's actually itchiness or anxiety (he's also a very anxious cat, no argument there) so hydrolyzed protein it is. Anyway he LOVES the kibble, and while he doesn't love the wet food as much, if I doctor it (cats :eyeroll:) he goes for it. My trick is 0.25 can per day, smoosh it up, add some water and smoosh more. I also give him Miralax in this concoction. Microwave for 10 seconds (helps if you have a lipped plate rather than a regular plate or bowl) then mix and smoish more and it mixes pretty well like those churu treats cats love. He seems to like it soooo... I'll take it!

Expensive prescription food and my allergy cat and my other cat both wouldn't eat it. The allergy cat is not a picky eater. She tried one lick of this and went to the other cats dish licked it once and walked away. The other one tried one bite and proceeded to try and bury it. Neither would eat any more. What a waste of so much money. I'd return it if I could

My cat is getting very tired of her other hydrolyzed protein food so I figured I would try the ha by Blue Buffalo. The change of pace suited her for a meal or two, but now she's back to being picky. I don't think there's anything wrong with the food at all. I just think she's looking for steak instead of vegetables!

My cat, Chloe, has always had a sensitive belly and finding a food that does not make her sick is a challenge. Without any answers or diagnosis from all of her vets throughout her life, her frequent vomiting has always been a mystery and finding foods she would love AND keep down has been an ongoing experiment. I was recommended this dry food from a friend and it has been a god send. The vomiting significantly improved (except for the times she would nibble on my plant..) and she has finally been enjoying a life free of belly troubles. I’m sure she’s happy to be feeling better, as I’m happy to not be cleaning up vomit constantly.

Trial Period Underway

At this moment, she seems to like this brand of dry hydrolyzed better than all others tried. We hope she'll continue to do so, as time will tell.

My picky cats (specially my allergic one) will actually eat this!

I'm so happy my picky cats will actually eat this! That's great since I have an allergic one going through an elimination diet, and the vet indicated this food

I'm so happy my picky cats will actually eat this! That's great since I have an allergic one going through an elimination diet, and the vet indicated this food. And even more surprisingly to me, he will eat the hydrolyzed cans as well (as long as I heat it up quickly in the microwave, add some hot water, and mix a little of this dry food)

Lifesaver

I've tried many different foods/brands of cat food because my cat has issues with vomiting - he would vomit 2-3 times a week prior to this food and it got so bad

I've tried many different foods/brands of cat food because my cat has issues with vomiting - he would vomit 2-3 times a week prior to this food and it got so bad I had to bring him to the emergency vet. They recommended we trial this food and it has been a lifesaver so far and he hasn't vomited in over 3 weeks, and I'm crossing my fingers that this was the solution!

Hydrolyzed Salmon is the only food my cat with IBC can eat

Mickey will die if this is discontinued. Other brands made blood clots in runny smelly stool.
