Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow a 7 to 14-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. For a 14-day transition plan, start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Days 1-4. On Days 5-8, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Days 9-11, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Days 12-14, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

About BLUE Buffalo
Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Blue Buffalo dry food
By Shadow on Feb 16, 2021
My cat is a very picky eater. His vet had sent me home with Science Diet and Royal Canin dry and wet foods. He would not touch any of them. I purchased Blue Buffalo W&U. He had always eaten either the Sensitive Stomach or Hairball Control and took to his new food without any problem. Thank you Blue Buffalo

Better quality for cats with urinary issues
By julia724 on Dec 23, 2020
I highly recommend this food. We had our cat on Iams for Urinary issues because it was non-prescription and I thought it was good quality. However, it contains corn as one of the main ingredients, so I switched our cat to this food. We can see a big difference in his energy levels (and he was already an active cat). I think it speaks to the quality of this food's ingredients. I just wish it wasn't such a hassle to get the vet's "prescription". It's just food; it's not medication. But I recommend it if your cat has had kidney stones like ours.

Cat loves it
By Michaela on Feb 27, 2021
My cat is picky when it comes to cat food and has a sensitive stomach, I was pleased to see that she didn’t throw up or refuse to eat it. In fact she cleans the bowl every time.

One happy mama
By Rosie on Dec 2, 2020
My Karey was diagnosed with kidney stones and the vet was insistent about putting her on Royal Canaan. My cat would get sick every time she ate it. I researched blue buffalo and it being gluten-free and both of my cats love it! I have no problems with my two cats eating it. I will continue to purchase this food to keep my cats urinary and weight management in check. Would definitely recommend!

Pleased with my purchase!
By JulW on Jan 9, 2021
Super happy to get an Rx urinary care cat food that is grain free and my cat will actually eat. This helps cut the cost of his more expensive urinary care wet food.

Everyone loves the taste!
By Freezie on Jan 6, 2021
Thought this food would be rejected because it’s weight control...but, the kitty kids just love it!

Loves it!!!!!!
By Kitty on Nov 16, 2020
It is our cat's favorite food. He maintains his weight and urinary health with no problems, as long as he eats this. I also like that it is grain free.

If they won't eat it..
By billie on Aug 8, 2020 Top 500 Contributor
I have an overweight cat with urinary tract issues so was excited to find this combination. I'm sure this W+U food is excellent and is exactly what the doctor ordered, (and he did order it). Alas, neither of my cats will touch it.

Blue Buffalo cat food
By Barb on Jun 23, 2020
My fourteen year old cat is verthe picky. The only food he likes is Blue, other than treats or a little good quality turkey or ham , low sodium occasionally . My vet wanted him on a food for urinary health . He woold not eat the Royal Cannaan. I found the Blue Formula on Chewy . He likes it. It is expensive but as long as he does well I will order it.

Much Better Ingredients Than Other Brands
By kbbarbie105 on Jun 7, 2020
However, my cat still wouldn't eat it. He apparently doesnt appreciate any of the urinary food brands. On the other hand, I have another older cat that normally will only eat dry food when she is absolutely desperate and she gobbles this food up. She does not need special food, but it must taste delicious to her because this is pretty much the only dry food I can get her to eat. The kibble is smaller than most brands, which helps cats with gum disease & tooth loss eat it.
