Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow a 7 to 14-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. For a 14-day transition plan, start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Days 1-4. On Days 5-8, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Days 9-11, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Days 12-14, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

About BLUE Buffalo
Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Thumbs up :)
By THORN on Feb 23, 2021
My little guy is prone to urinary crystals. There are not a lot of wet food options when it comes to vet prescription. I was excited to see this at Chewy because I hadn't seen it before. Maybe it's been around a while, IDK, I only shop at Chewy for his vet prescribed food. Anyway, he seems to love it, and so do the other cats in the house. He has turned his nose up at other urinary foods and eats this up. The other cats also turned their nose to his food, now I find them eating up what he leaves behind. It's a pate, with a higher water content. The consistency is similar to American Journey and Whole Hearted if you're familiar with either of these foods, they're higher quality foods, but My little guy is prone to urinary crystals. My only request is Blue Buffalo make it in a 3oz can. Cats love fresh food from the can and don't seem to like it as much when it's been refrigerated. I've always had great experience with Chewy & the products, this pallet of food was clearly dropped as I received several cans that were severely dented. … more

Great food!
By CatMom1 on Feb 24, 2021
I had to fight my vet to write a perscription for this stuff but it was worth it - my Garrus does better on this stuff than anything we've tried so far! I hated feeding him the Hills food and we're so happy to have found this healthy alternative.

Eats it better than the other prescription food
By sceynon on Jan 10, 2021
My 15 year old kitty was prescribed a UA food. We tried the food the Vet put her on initially. The food was very soft and wet. She licked it, left a lot in the bowl, and at times refused to eat it at all. The consistency of the Blue Buffalo UA food is less wet; she appears to like the taste and is eating much more of it. Her two fellow cats will eat it as well if they get the opportunity. They tended to reject her initial UA food.

cat disapproves
By BS4U on Oct 8, 2020
My cat was in the hospital to have a stone removed and they sent home several samples of food. He seemed to eat samples all fine and this was less expensive so I opted to buy but now the cat refuses to eat it over the other brands of urinary care caned or dry food.

cats love it
By Nina on Nov 5, 2020
Had to switch since another diet for urinary issues didn't work well. Hoping this works. Cats (2) both love the food and it isn't as smelly or messy as the one we had before.

Yum, yum give me some!!!!!
By Cosmosmom on Jul 24, 2020
The first prescription food my cat loves!!!! My relationship with my cat has changed. I now feel so used. He is constantly begging me to feed him. We have been on a long journey trying so many different brands of food. In the past he would either put his nose up; vomit right after eating and/or had allergic reactions or sensitivities with scabs all over his neck and head. My only worry for him now is eating too much and not keeping his weight down due to being insatiable. I often have to ignore his meows and pleas.

Paws down from cat but A from me
By Susi on Jul 24, 2020
I wanted my cat to eat this but he refused. The ingredients and fiber content look good. It would have been 5 stars if my cat had eaten it. Blue Buffalo is a trusted brand by many. I wanted to switch to Blue but it didn’t work.
