Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

FAQ

Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?

We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.

How do I order veterinary diets?

  1. Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
  2. At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
  3. Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Do authorizations expire?

Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

    Don't deny the science!

My lovely Madam Kitten, was diagnosed with FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disorder), cystitis, and struvite crystals at the beginning of June. She was visiting the litter box frequently and not producing as much as she should be. She was clearly miserable. So I took her into the vet, who ran a urinalysis. And sure enough, we found struvites, blood and all the bad things associated with FLUTD and cystitis, but no UTI. We also figured since her human sisters are now home 24/7 that it was causing additional stress to her previously leisure lifestyle. Her vet recommended to change up her diet, enriched the environment and changed up the routine. I'm so happy with this diet and I'm so happy that she's happy too. No one needs an unhappy Siamese in the house. Give the diet a chance! … more

    It Works and It's Delicious!

Mishu loves this kibble! So does my other kitty. He'll have a snack once in a while. And more importantly, Mishu has lost weight & has had no more bladder stones.

They all love it but I question the ingredients

    By on

Rice, corn, etc. I've started paying more attention to the ingredients in cat food and I truly don't understand Prescription food. I'm debating on switching them to something with better ingredients. I hesitate because they haven't had any bowel issues since they've been eating this food and my vet recommended it as well.

    Cats don't like this

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

Unfortunately two of my cats got sick from this food and the others don't like it and throw it out of the bowl and now I'm stuck with a big bag and don't know what to do with it and this food is VERY EXPENSIVE! Ugh.

Our cat has lost about 4 pounds and is much calmer with this food. No urinary issues as long as he stays out of others food.

    Did not work

    By on

I had my cat on a strict diet of this for over a year and he did not lose a single pound. At first it calmed his anxiety a bit, but that did not last. Now I've got him on a much more reasonably priced food and kitty prozac and he is much happier, though has still not lost any weight.

    Cats like it!

    By on

Both of my cats are picky eaters and they both like this! They both have uti problems and having the stress included in the food is very helpful. Just having a uti creates stress on a cat so it's a win win!
