Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

He like it!
By Oliver on Feb 3, 2021
My adorable and expensive Kitty has had to be on Multicare Stress and Urinary dry cat food for a few years now and has put on the pounds! Vet recommended this with Metabolic care. I was worried maybe he would not like the taste but he seems to like it a lot as does the other 2 kitty's in the house. Now waiting for the results. We are following recommended portion size and hopefully we will see he slims down a bit and get to a healthier weight. Plus Chewy helped get the prescription filled very quickly!!

C/D Metabolic
By Crazycatlady on Feb 4, 2021
I was worried about the boys not liking this food, but thankfully they do. My most finicky cat will bully into another's bowl to eat it. This food was a vet recommendation to reduce weight and help with urinary crystals. I hope this food does the trick. I've only been using it a couple weeks and they still have to finish the old food. It'll be awhile before I really see results. But for now, they like it and it seems to fill them up.

Great product, outstanding Chewy service
By Muttsrule on Jan 21, 2021
Kitty was on a different brand through another store that ran out of product. The other store didn't share that with me until I contacted them asking where our autoship was. Our vet said we could use this Hill's Science Diet product instead. The transition to this new food was easy for kitty--he loves this food! And I love CHEWY for their responsiveness, great prices, superfast shipping and in spite of recent pandemic-related challenges, always always ALWAYS being there for my furkids and me. THANK YOU CHEWY!

Helped our cat
By Leesha on Jan 13, 2021
Our vet put our 1 year old cat on this food after her started having urinary issues and was diagnosed with FLUTD. its been 2 years and he has had no issues since and we also have our female cat on it as well (we haven't taken the time to train them to use separate bowls). It is expensive but worth it for our cats health.

Cat loves it.
By Lolo on Dec 12, 2020
My cat was switched from Royal Canin Urinary SO to this because Royal Canin was causing weight gain. I was dreading switching over to a new food even with the slow introduction but it turns out my cat is crazy about this Hill’s food. He hears the bag being opened, and he comes running. He did not do that with his old food. It is too early to tell if it is actually helping with his weight loss though since we are still transitioning between brands.
