My 10 year old cat (Sophie) has always had a lot of anxiety. She seems to be very easily over-stimulated. She loves to snuggle and then, all at once, will bite into your hand and draw blood! Her entire life I have never known what would set her off. I discussed the situation with my vet, after she noticed my bitten up hands and arms, and she suggested Fluoxetine. She has been on this for about a month and she NEVER bites anymore, is much calmer, and I think, much happier. I just got a new puppy, which would normally send her into a frenzy but instead she is like the puppy whisperer, playing with the puppy all day long. Trust me, that is not at all what the old Sophie would have done. I just ordered a 90 day supply and she will be on this for the rest of her days.
Great for aggressive cats
My cat has been on this med for about 1.5 years and I’ve been filling it at a local pharmacy where they compound it. The price is MUCH higher there and they claimed that the tubes these come in are being discontinued so I was happy to find here on Chewy. The base that the local pharmacy made theirs in gave my cat very bad sores on her ears so I’m hoping this one might be made a tad different but I won’t know until I’ve used it for a bit. My only complaints so far would be that the applicator tip is flat rather than angled so it makes it a bit harder to apply in her ears and also I noticed when I first ordered it (a tad ahead of time as to not run out) that it was compounded 2 months prior, sometimes I feel that it loses its potency when it’s “old.” I understand mixing up more at once, but having it made that long ago and if you don’t end up using RIGHT away is kind of worrisome. I figured it would be compounded when the order was placed. Other than that no complaints, I hope it works better for my girl, I was glad to find it in a smaller amount and for a MUCH cheaper price.
It works, I have tried several different calming items from the pet store's nothing worked! I have 1 cat, out of 5 that will howl and howl at times but this actually calmed him down!
Cat friendly way to give meds
This transdermal pen is a wonderful invention for administering medicine to a cat. Before, we were giving 1/4 of an oval shaped pill and if it didn't clear the tongue and go right down the throat it would cause foaming, gagging, and vomitting - not exactly the anti-anxiety result the medicine is supposed to give. With this pen - just two clicks and a little scribble in the ear and we're done for the day! Huber the cat and his mother both love it!
Not Vet Recommended
Spoke with my vet about using this for my male cat who has issues urinating outside of the litter box (he is currently on the liquid oral medication). Our vet does not recommend the transdermal fluoxetine because studies haven shown that it does not absorb as well as other types of medication.
Cheap Kitty Prozac
This is amazing and I am so thankful that Chewy has started offering compounds. This prescription is 50% of the price at a similar compounding pharmacy, and it's so convenient that we can get it along with everything else. While there are obviously no expenses spared for our babies, every $30 I save a month on my kitty's prozac is $30 I can spend on treats.
This cream is a god send.
This product is a godsend. You could hide meds in her favorite things and she wouldn’t take the meds. You could force her to take them and then she would vomit the pill up later. I did not want to traumatize her any more than possible or deal with the daily struggle of making sure she would take the pill and then wasting money on something she would vomit up. I found this cream that you place in her ear and it has worked great.
So easy to apply for pets that are difficult to give medicine to. My kitty puts up quite a fight for any other type of medicine, but this one he doesn't mind at all. It also doesn't make a mess, as some other types do. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because it didn't help his anxiety very much. However, I'm sure that is different for each animal.
Total game changer
One of my cats has issues with peeing outside of the litterbox. He has been on this medication both in regular and compounded liquid form. He hated it so much it got to the point he would run every time I approached him, for fear it was for medicine. This is gentle and easy on both Little Carl and me.
This is very easy to measure. Two clicks of the bottom gives the right dosage. I was very pleased with the friendly and helpful pharmacy folks at Chewy
