Ingredient Information

Feeding Instructions

Honest Research. Unbiased Data.

Research is grounded in trusted, peer-reviewed sources rather than in-house studies. Unique ingredients are supported by scientific research and included at meaningful levels when used in formulas.

100% Horse Safe

Standard safety protocols are not enough. Risky ingredients, such as ionophores, are never allowed on the property. Ingredients are sourced exclusively from partners who share the same safety standards, ensuring there is no risk of contamination.

Built on Trust

Every ingredient is clearly listed by its true name, and formulas are locked to ensure consistency in every bag. Operating as a single-mill facility allows for rapid innovation without compromising the safety and quality horses deserve.

A Personal Approach

Building strong connections matters. That’s why Bluebonnet invests in private nutrition consultations, co-hosts community education events, and shares tools that empower owners to make informed decisions for their animals long after the first interaction.

About Bluebonnet Feeds

Since the early 1980s, safety and integrity have been at the center of everything Bluebonnet does. Every formula is science-backed, developed by in-house PhD nutritionists, and supported by a world-class team dedicated to making advanced nutrition simple and effective.

I bought this for my horse that foundered recently at nearly 30. There’s just too much information and opinions on what to feed and not feed a horse with laminitis. A dry lot and steaming hay is not an option as much as I’d like it to be, but I have him on supplements and I took him off his soy based food. There’s not a lot of choices for horse feed free of soy, corn, molasses and other inflammatory ingredients. So far he is eating the food with no issue. I haven’t had a problem (yet?) with it being powdery like others have, but I’m only 1 bag in. I don’t really like leaving reviews this early because you can’t update them later, but for now he’s doing well on it.

I'm happy to find a limited ingredient forage balancer

I mix a measured scoop into wee Elizabeth's beet pulp mashes every day, she can be fussy, but hasn't minded the additional texture in her bowl.

This is my 13 yr old Rocky mare that I have had for 2 yrs. She's a wonderful horse, but is a bit on the chunkie side with the crested neck that began this year. Due to her not being pregnant but on and off lactating, I did some research and read that this could be a possible sign of pre-cushingoid or at least metabolic. I was feeding TC balancer but found that soy is a huge culprit in stimulating or adding estrogens, and also alfalfa. So, cutting out soy is a must and very very limited alfalfa. I switched to this balancer for that reason (no soy, limited ingredients), good quality, easy to acquire thanks to Chewy (TC products are difficult to get around here) and I love balancers due to the low feed rate. I've known for many years that soy is highly inflammatory for animals and people. Don't know why I ignored that. Anyway, I just started my two horses on this balancer 3 days ago and will see how they respond. The first day they were real picky on eating it, the second day, gobbled it down. I am feeding a pound to each daily along with 1/2 cup Omegahorseshine, the Essential vitamin from Dr. Depaolo and the personal supplement that was put together for the mare for her toxicities via Dr. Depaolo's hair analysis.

I love the ingredients in this product and my horses love it too. I had my horses and a few others in the barn sample it for taste and each one liked it! The pellets are smaller than other brands and does not have to be soaked but I soak them for my gelding. The bags always smell nice and fresh, unlike another popular brand.

I bought this feed because it is forage based and allergy free. It is made from quality ingredients, no wheat mids (chaff), no soybean hulls (pods, shells). Those junk ingredients used to be discarded and plowed back into the soil.

Good Ration Balancer

My horse found it palatable. My one complaint is that there’s a lot of powder in the bag which my horse won’t eat, leading to wasted product. It’s also more expensive

My mare is a very easy keeper. This provides the proper nutrients for her with her hay. Gives her the Bluebonnet shine, too.
