Does it deter deers also?

Answer by ChewyJan 28, 2021
The crushed chili peppers don’t affect birds like they do mammals so this should deter any mammal trying to eat this food.

is it still effective if mixed with sunflowers seeds, peanuts and meal worms?

Answer by ChewyJun 13, 2021
We do not recommend mixing this food with others, especially not when first beginning to use it. Birds don’t have the spicy sensation when eating chili peppers, but mammals do. Chili peppers are a great source of vitamins and nutrition for birds, but squirrels and other mammals that do not like the fiery hot taste soon learn to look elsewhere for food. It may take some time to work, but visible signs that it’s working will include squirrels spending less time at the feeder, rubbing their faces and mouths, and shaking their heads. We recommend an alternative feeding station for squirrels nearby to help distract them from your bird feeders.

Will the peppers harm a dog who likes to eat seeds on the ground the birds drop?

Answer by ChewyMay 18, 2021
It is not recommended for dogs to eat this blend as it is designed for birds only.

New costumer and extremely disappointed. One of the 2 bags had a hole in it and spilled all over the shipping box. Cleaning up bird seeds is annoying enough, but this also has pepper flakes. Everything else in my order is covered. Seeds and pepper flakes spilling out of the box and on my floor. Should have checked recent reviews first cause this seems to be a problem.

The first critter in the feeder was a squirrel. He proceeded to scratch all the food out until he found a peanut, which he happily ate and then repeated the process until it was all on the ground. I only tried this because the suet by this manufacturer works well and they won't eat it. This food however, isn't coated with pepper, the flakes and seeds are just loose in the bag. It's easy for them to get around it.

Squirrels still here

We had six squirrels at or around the feeder today. They're not detered at all. Even worse, the birds don't seem to like it much.

Hot pepper seed

Didn’t discourage squirrels and was too loose for the feeder. Most of it spilled right out of the bottom of the feeder.

Not a winner for us - NE USA

Our normal birds would not eat it. They like other varieties better.

Squirrel didn't give a F

A very determined squirrel was able to eat around the pepper flakes and sat there for at least half an hour eating away. Grrr.

I bought this product because it indicated that squirrels do not like the taste but that it is good for wild birds. Since placing the food in my Bird Buddy, the squirrels still visit and eat. One squirrel stayed in there for almost 10 minutes. Besides that disappointment, I haven't had any birds visit since putting in this food. Prior to placing this food out, I have had 3 to 7 birds a day. This did the complete opposite of what I thought it would do.
