Precautions
As with any changes to your pet's care, you should observe your pet closely for changes in behavior. Potential risk of impaction exists if your pet ingests a significant amount of any type of litter. If you suspect impaction, discontinue use immediately and seek veterinary care.
Instructions
Rabbits: Place 1-3"" of Carefresh Rabbit & Ferret litter in a shallow litter box or tray near your pet's food and water bowls. Place a layer of hay on top of the litter. Because rabbits like to eat while using the litter box, this will encourage good litter box habits.
Ferrets: Place 1"" of Carefresh Rabbit & Ferret litter in a litter box designed specifically for ferrets. The litter box should be triangular-shaped, have low sides and be large enough to fit all four paws at once. This will encourage good litter box habits, because Ferrets like to go to the bathroom in corners.

what size area would this 1 bag cover? I have three(3) 2x5 cages
Answer by • Mar 23, 2021
The Rabbit & Ferret litter is intended for small areas only – like a litter box, not to cover an entire cage. We would recommend using the regular carefresh bedding to cover larger cages. The 4.5 pound bag is only 343 cu inches in volume or 5.62 liters and will not even cover a cage that measures 10 cu feet with a one inch layer. 1 inch of litter = 1,440 cu inches.
Can this also be used for hedgehogs I have a rabbit and I would like to get a litter that I can use for both pets.

I don't understand why people write a review and give it a low rating when it sounds like the litter isn't the problem. I have 6 ferrets and have never had any issues with this litter. They go potty in it, it cleans up easy with scoop or I dump the pans. They don't eat it or even attempt to. It's good for they're little lungs compared to others dusty types. No complaints good product, it does what it's made for absorb poop/pee. I use to use the kaytee small pellets which is great, but they don't have a larger size bag and it's a little pricey compared to this brand.

Not absorbent
I found this litter to not be absorbent at all. They are hard pellets but o though they’d absorb urine and expand when wet.

Not great for all ferrets
I began using this litter for my two young ferrets (both 7 months old) a few months ago after trying out different kinds of litter. They preferred this kind to the others, so I kept using it while I trained them to use the litter box. All was well until recently, when they began to eat it and pass it in their stool. I'm not entirely sure why they were doing it but a lot of other ferret owners told me that there are safer options, and that this isn't a brand recommended for regular use. Eating litter of any kind isn't safe, but the small size of these pellets had me concerned that they might cause a blockage and make my ferrets sick. Luckily I caught it early on and switched up the litter, but long story short, please watch your ferrets' behavior with this stuff if you use it.

Bunny and I both love this litter. It's the best for recycling in my garden, too.

It gets everywhere
It is absorbent. But it gets everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Like Styrofoam when you crush it - kind of like that. I much prefer paper litter that's a little heavier and doesn't get tossed around as much. But this litter does a good job as far as absorbing and clumping. Just gets everywhere with zero effort.

Not the best
Not something I would recommend. It absorbs great, but it was super stinky. She is an indoor bunny. Maybe outside would be better?
