What is compounding?
Compounding is a way for licensed pharmacists to create a customized medication that meets your pets specific needs. Compounding pharmacists mix or change one or more FDA-approved medications to prepare a special medication for your pet. For example, if a medication is only available in pill form, the pharmacist might create it in liquid, gel, or capsule form.
Why do some pets need compounded drugs?
Your pet may have a specific health need that cannot be addressed by an FDA-approved drug. For example:
- Your pet has trouble taking pills but will take medication in a flavored liquid or other form.
- Your pet needs medication in a strength that is not commercially available.
- Your pet is allergic to a specific ingredient in a medication.
Always talk with your veterinarian about any concerns you have about your pets health so they can prescribe a treatment for your pets unique needs.

Do I need to have a prescription on hand before I order a prescription item?
It is not required to have a written prescription on hand when you place your order, but Chewy Pharmacy must have a patient-specific prescription from a licensed veterinarian on file before it can dispense a medication. At checkout, simply select: I want Chewy to contact my vet, and we will contact your veterinarian on your behalf to get your pets prescription. Mailing in a prescription will likely lead to longer ship times.

Syringes for compounded medications
I love everything about Chewy, from its variety of products, prompt service and delivery, and reasonable pricing to the best chinchilla cage ever. My only problem has been the quality of the syringes that are supplied with the compounded medicines. They work properly for only two days before sticking and even pulling apart, making them useless for the 10 day course of medication. And the dose markings wear off quickly, causing the need to guess the correct amount. I would rather pay a little extra for proper syringes, rather than having to make a trip to the drug store to buy my own. But my chinch does love the chicken flavor!
Pleasantly surprised
The medicine came in a package that kept it cool. The price was moderate and the selection was large. It did take a while for approval from the vet but that may have been the vet's issue, not Chewy's.
cough meds
this medicine worked great when my kitten had a bad cough when we adopted her. i recommend for cats .
antibioctic
Easier to administer to cats and seems to have did its job
My cats meds
He seems to be doing better already and it's been 2 days.
