How do you determine the size?

Answer by ChewySep 18, 2024
Measuring the nails is an essential, one-time process for each patient. Improperly sized, ToeGrips may quickly fall off or migrate into the nail bed. For best results, nails should be appropriately trimmed before sizing and applying ToeGrips. To measure, follow these following steps: Step 1: Wrap a piece of dental floss around the midshaft of the toenail. Step 2: Hold the floss, wrapped around the nail circumference, with one hand. Step 3: Use a Sharpie® to mark across both pieces of floss. This will generate two points. Step 4: Stretch the floss and measure the distance between the two points in millimeters. Step 5: Repeat for all weight-bearing nails on one front and one back paw. Step 6: Based on the range of measurements obtained (not the average), use the chart below to select the proper size. Occasionally, a dog may require a combination of two sizes.

The toe grips went on with minimal resistance from our dog, but it was difficult to get them lined up the way the instructions say they should be for maximum grip. Our dog is 2 years old is pretty agile, not an old infirm dog. We have tile floors that area a bit slippery. The grips reduced the slippage about 80% and made it easier for her to stand up. But were by no means the "miracle" they are advertised, but they did help. Sadly, with in 3 days, 2 of them had already come off and been lost. We checked her feet every day to ensure they were on correctly. We cannot afford to replace them every week and will be looking into less expensive options.

I got these for my girl because I notice she will purposely stay on the carpet so she doesnt slip on our hardwood. She also has had 3 rear leg surgeries, and one leg with a permanent metal plate. I got these for her in hopes it would make getting up easier, but when she grips the floor they end up coming off or slide up her nail. The gripzone sucks. Hard to keep these in the correct placement. Went on a 8min walk in the park once, she is slower and doesnt drag her feet, but we lost 3 of them. Just not meant for us I guess. Also, really expensive for just some small pieces of rubber.like circles. They are color coded based on nail size, mine were purple.

Tamzin has been suffering from arthritis and the inability to walk on her pads. Our Vet recommended these for our older dog (who unfortunately passed) so we still ordered them and put them on her, the only thing is, they are a pain to put on even after soaking them. Once they were on, her confidence exploded. She was up walking around more then normal, she stopped sliding a little bit.

Good idea but why so expensive? These are just little plastic tubes. They actually work but what's unnerving is that when they fall off they are often lost, and then you have to buy more. Also, maybe it's my dog, but one size grips did not fit all of my dog's nails, so some needed the next larger size and just couldn't justify spending more. Booties with grips are cheaper and work well too.

My poor doodle was slipping down our wooden stairs and was terrified of falling. She was better with rubber soled shoes, but so hot and clunky! I tried these on a whim and I am so glad I did! I put them just on her back feet and she is soaring up and down the stairs like a champ now I couldn’t believe they would make any difference, but they do!! Happy girl, happy mom.

These are way overpriced in my opinion.

I thought these would help my senior dog slip less. I painstakingly followed instructions because I truly wanted them to work. They didn't. I've reapplied them

I thought these would help my senior dog slip less. I painstakingly followed instructions because I truly wanted them to work. They didn't. I've reapplied them to cover more of the bottom of the nail than the instructions recommended to see if they will work that way and stay on the nail.

The toe grips didn’t work for my dog. I had great hopes that they would, so I tried them out, applying them only to his front claws. Lucas removed every last one from his front claws during the night and apparently ate most of them, because only two were found the next morning and all were gone from his paws. They fit quite snugly and were a little hard to apply. I was concerned about his ingestion of the alcohol soaked nail tips but he suffered no ill effects. Wish they had worked but they didn’t.

They did seem to help my senior dog. However, despite proper application they were falling off after day one. Please note my senior is NOT active and is about as close to a stuffed animal as you can get. It also requires your pet's nails be overgrown to work. Meaning if your dog's nails don't touch the ground when they walk, the grips won't work.

Our 11 year old pup has been having some trouble getting up off of the hardwood floors recently so we were trying to find something that could help. We tried the socks with the rubberized bottoms and they were great until he kept stepping in his urine outside. So when we found these, we were excited to try them. They were fairly easy to put on after following the instructions to soak them in alcohol before applying. It took us putting on a few before we got the hang of it, but once we got it down they have been easy. I will say that correct placement on the nails is crucial. We only put them on his back nails, as that is his particular issue and he has done fantastic! He pops right up now and we see that his confidence to play and run is back to normal! We couldn’t be happier that these were created. We will be purchasing more when he wears these out.

We got the right size, they were a little tricky to get on but the rubbing alcohol as a lubricant helped a lot. Once they were on they absolutely helped the old girl on the hardwood. Unfortunately she was very focused on systemically removing them one by one over the next several days. They are a brilliant idea and will be great for any dog who doesn’t notice them.
