Watermelon may be mostly water but, apart from helping to keep your pooch hydrated, there is much more to this refreshing fruit.

Watermelon’s nutritional highlight is lycopene, a phytonutrient that gives watermelon its beautiful red color. This potent antioxidant provides protection against free radicals and oxidative damage, which may help to prevent cancer and heart disease.

Bottom line: Watermelon is a tasty, low-calorie, hydrating and super healthy treat for both dogs and people!

Ingredients

Sorbet for dogs
  • 3 cups frozen, cubed watermelon (seedless)
  • ¼ cup watermelon juice*
  • A squeeze of honey (optional)
  • Toppings (optional)

* You can also use coconut water or just plain water.

Directions

Place your diced, frozen watermelon cubes and a dash of honey into a food processor.

Add a little juice. It’s a good idea to just add a little at the beginning and slowly add more as you process the sorbet. Too much juice will give the sorbet more of a slush texture.
