I adopted my boy, Reno, as a 6 month old from a shelter who claimed he was a GSD mix. As he grew older, people told us he looked more black and tan coonhound than anything and even had the bark to match. He's 7 years old now and we finally decided to give it a try to get a definitive answer. The results were shocking! I never imagined he had Australian Shepherd or Chow Chow in him, and the only amount of hound was trace amounts of American Foxhound. He doesn't have a drop of GSD blood in him. Also, the health screenings were very informative, and it's a huge relief finding out my boy is cleared of all the conditions they screened for as he's aging gracefully. They even sent a free replacement swab because the first we sent in didn't have enough of his DNA on it. Overall, it feels like I learned so much about my buddy and it makes me appreciate him even more. I plan on buying another for my other rescue pup to get her tested within the next few months!… more

This kit was very easy and once you sent it in they kept you apprised of exactly where it was in the process. Received results which were very clear and organized with easy ways to share results with your vet or others. I also got the pleasant surprise of learning that my hound mix rescue pup was 100% American Fox Hound. They even give you a way to connect with other dogs who share DNA with yours!
Wow! Great report

Thorough, well presented, useful report. Learned a lot about my dog. I know breeders need to keep costs down but the inbreeding score seems very useful.
The report itself can be shared easily and is simple to understand yet loaded with details and scientific references.
I have already recommended it to friends

We rescued my pup, Bruce, in March and was told he was a German shepherd mix. He looked more like a Dutch shepherd mix or an Australian kelpie! Got the test results back today and he was none of those breeds! Ended up being a pitbull chihuahua mix w some poodle and lab! So happy to finally find out what he is!

We won this kit in a giveaway and did it on Mushu, turns out she’s 50% American Bully and 50% Treeing Walker Coonhound! We knew her mom was a purebred American Bully and expected some sort of hound but we thought Lab! We also have reached out to some relatives, found out she has a low normal ALT rate, and is clear for everything else! Couldn’t be happier with her results!
Very fun, good information!

Got this for our shelter puppy to see if he is likely to have any medication sensitivities or health issues down the line, and to figure out just what the heck he is. We had a pretty good guess which we confirmed, and there were a few breeds that surprised us!
I read some skeptical reviews saying that the testing company just guesses based on what pictures you post and what information you fill out, which I can confirm is not the case, because we did not fill out any information on the site other than our location before we got our results.
Total time to get the results was a little over two weeks from putting the swab in the mail to getting our dog's profile by email.

Our test came back with 100% American Bully. The American Bully is comprised of 14 different breeds. I think they could narrow down the breed of our dog for the price we paid. Our dog looks nothing like an American Bully typically looks. They said he would only be 63lbs, he is 60lbs now at 7 months old. You tell me what he is, pic included.
Phenotype ≠ Genotype
on Dec 30, 2019
Embark is the most accurate DNA test available for dogs at this point in time, they're constantly expanding their database of breeds and health screenings. It's important to realizing that Phenotype ≠ Genotype- phenotype is the appearance and genotype is the genetics that determine breed. With that said, I didn't expect my dog to come back over 30% APBT, but I know the area she was found in and I know her mother was an ACD (found with her). I would say these tests are fairly accurate and reliable. It's also super helpful getting health results and knowing what to look for.
Surprised by results!

We got this for our supposed Husky maybe GSD mix. Imagine our shock when he came back as 100% GSD! Embark has great customer service and went through the test again to double check and talked to me about the results. I highly recommend this product. A feature I didn't know it had was a relative finder and we found lots of somewhat close relatives to Hachi!
