Will your test show if a dog is part coyote?

Is MDR1 included in this test?

Answer by ChewyMar 01, 2018
The MDR1 Test is included.

My four dogs (and whatever foster dogs we have at the time) all drink from the same two water bowls. (They are BIG pots). Will the potential mixing of saliva from the water affect the results? Or, if is, for how long before the test should I withhold water?

Answer by ChewyDec 23, 2019
We recommend waiting at least an hour after the pup has eaten, shared a water bowl, or shared a toy with another dog before swabbing, in order to ensure that the sample is not contaminated. Additionally, we advise separating the dogs during this time.

does this test show if your dog has degenerative myelopathy

Answer by ChewyApr 18, 2021
This test kit will test if your pet is pre-disposed to degenerative myelopathy. Please note that these mutations are reported to have incomplete penetrance: that is, while a dog with two copies of this mutation has a much greater chance of developing DM than a dog with one copy of the mutation, or none at all, other genetic and environmental factors will also contribute to whether your dog develops DM.

We did the test on our mixed breed shelter puppy. After having a dog with health issues previous to the new puppy we wanted to be prepared for what was to come. They gave us her breed information breakdown, traits and details from her dna makeup. The process took about 5 weeks total from test to results. They also gave us her very important health concerns that based on her DNA are a certain thing. After sharing with her vet we are now ready and know what to look for when changes happen. Note: You should purchase health insurance for your pet before doing this test if you plan to so they will cover any conditions that are revealed by the test, otherwise they are preexisting conditions not covered.

The shelter said our adopted dog was an English bulldog, we knew she seemed a bit big for an English but figured they had more experience than us. But after getting her home we could tell from her energy and agility they were probably wrong. This test came back that she was in fact 75% Americans bulldog and 25% bulldog, and they even knew the 25% was from her maternal dna which is so specific and amazing. We also got good info about her genetic health and predispositions. Their database is awesome and has identified so many relatives, even years later we still get an occasional family match update (we can tell she has an uncle working for a breeder of American bulldogs). If you are an adopter and want the best possible info on your new family member this test is the best and worth every penny!

I got this for my sister to genetically test her rescue dog that she just adopted from a local shelter. She used an off-brand service that listed the breeds by working class group instead of the actual breeds that make up the dog I have always used Embark to genetically test my rescue dogs so decided to surprise her and sent this directly to her house. I accidentally sent it to my house, but the chewy rep was very helpful and corrected my mistake so that it was able to be mailed to her house directly. Embark received her swab and hopefully in a few weeks will know what breeds make up her dog Lucky.

We recently got a rescue and hand many questions of what he was mixed with. This test was easy to do. It took about 3 weeks to get results back, but it provided so much information! We got a breakdown of all he was mixed with and health history based off his results. The company did a great job explaining all the information. Another plus we didn't expect was getting to see other dogs he shared DNA with!

We found out the breeds of our two rescue puppies using these tests. Our supposed 'Chihuahua mix' turned out to be a Pitbull/Bulldog/Australian Cattle Dog mix, we had no idea! And apparently, neither did the rescue! Lol. We confirmed the breed of our other boy and enjoyed the updates while they were processing the specimens. The final report was rather detailed and gave us all the info we wanted: breed makeup percentages, approx size expected, and health concerns to be aware of. We found this tremendously helpful in planning for the future for our puppies. Instead of the toy-sized pup we were told we had received, we now know he'll be a med/lg breed and can plan for that.

Empty sticky vial

The test vial arrived. The stabilizing fluid leaked and it was a sticky mess and unusable. It took me over an hour to get someone at embark to straighten it out
