Can I put this in a turtle tank that has a filter?
Answer by • Aug 24, 2017
This aquatic terrarium substrate is meant to stay on the bottom and not interfere with your filter.
Can this Exo Terra Riverbed sand be safely used as an aquarium substrate for freshwater fish? What is the grain size in mm? Will this sand affect the pH or hardness of the water? Is it a silica sand? Thanks.
Answer by • Sep 27, 2017
The Riverbed Sand can be used in aquariums since the sand is naturally collected from dried riverbeds in South Africa. The manufacturer doesn't measure the grain sizes. However, the sand will not drastically alter the pH of the water inside the tank since it has already been naturally eroded (i.e. no leaching). This sand is not a silica based sand.
Do you put this in water or on the land portion?
Answer by • Jul 14, 2017
This substrate can be used in an aquatic environment, or as a dry substrate.
Can this be okay with fish as well?
Answer by • Oct 03, 2021
The substrate will work with aquatic turtles but we wouldn't recommend using it with a submerged filter.
