Famciclovir is a generic anti-viral used to treat symptoms of the herpes virus. Typically prescribed for humans, veterinarians often use to treat upper respiratory and ocular diseases in felines.
Famciclovir may improve clinical outcomes in felines infected with herpes virus type 1 (FHV-1).

Possible side effects of famciclovir may include decreased appetite and increased amounts of urine. Any side effects should be reported to your veterinarian.

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your pet is taking before starting this medication, including but not limited to probenecid.
Famciclovir is contraindicated in patients known to be hypersensitive to it or penciclovir. It should be used with caution (and dosage adjustment) in patients with renal dysfunction.
This drug is FDA-approved for human use. However, it is common practice for veterinarians to prescribe such drugs for use in cats.
