How much does it cost a month to run it in below temps?

Answer by HilltyDec 31, 2024
It's 60 watts. Would cost around $5/mo give or take depending on your electricity cost. That's if it ran 24/7 for a month.

If the nipples they drink from are metal and it's freezing out wouldn't the metal they have to bite be very cold and possibly they could get their tongue stuck on it?

How does this work? I don’t see a cord.

Answer by ChewyFeb 02, 2021
This heated drinker has a cord and will need to be plugged in.

Do the chickens figure out how to drink out of it on their own?

Answer by ChewyNov 30, 2023
Most chickens will learn to drink from the poultry drinker on their own. However, some may need a little training from the owner.

Saved my sanity!

SO glad I ordered this poultry drinker for my flock this winter. I wasn't having too much issue with the water freezing...the coop is staying a decent temp thanks to deep bedding, however my girls were constantly digging/throwing the wood shavings and all the shavings were ending up in their water, which polluted it and kept them from drinking it. They took to this drinker right away, no issues, and it is such peace of mind to not have to worry about cleaning out the water several times a day. I just refill as needed, and it actually seems like they are drinking more water due to having this. Love it!!

I live in Iowa & this was my first winter with 25 chickens & this heated waterer has been amazing it has never froze up once even when we’ve had negative degree weather & wind. I worried about my chickens figuring out how to use it but they had it figured out within a couple of days. Only thing was I wish it held more water because I do have to fill it up daily which is kind of a pain in the cold but I’ll deal with that over frozen water any day.

Easy to fill

I have used other heated drinkers and this is the easiest to fill. Some of the other common ones are a pain to fill and don't seem to work as well. I also like that

We've had below freezing temps for about a week, and this waterer has worked great. My chickens learned to use it right away. They also used to sometime jump on their previous hanging bucket waterer, spilling and making it dirty inside. That's not a problem with the conical lid on this one.

My chickens can NOT figure it out

I've had this in my coop for 6 weeks, my chickens CAN'T figure out how to use it. I've set it out and pushed the pegs to show them, they come to it peck a couple

I've had this in my coop for 6 weeks, my chickens CAN'T figure out how to use it. I've set it out and pushed the pegs to show them, they come to it peck a couple times and walk away. I have tried holding it to show water coming out, I put treats in front of pegs, they peck to take treats and no water comes out.....sadly I had to buy a different style. If anyone wants to buy this "used like new" from me $10 off.....looks great, sturdy but useless to me :(

It has the drinking nipples my girls are usebto

It works well. The only downfall that prevents me giving a 5 rating is you have to unplug to fill up. I wish the outlet part detached from the bucket.

Wish it worked, high hopes that it would

Unfortunately the cord was too short and an extension cord was taboo.. Plus one of the roosters thought it was a new perch to roost on! Back to the drawing boar

Lid on top.

I love that I don’t have to flip this waterer in order to fill it. Although, I only had it one year before it started leaking and stopped heating water.

Poor design: save your money

Waste of money. The nipples freeze in cold weather and totally defeat the purpose of the water that’s being kept from freezing. My chickens went the whole day
