Does this emit light? Is it safe to use for a bearded dragon at night?

Could this be used for keeping a hedgehog warm?

Answer by ChewyApr 30, 2024
This bulb is intended for reptiles or amphibians. It provides heat without bright, blinding light.

Will this work for a ball python in a 30-50 gallon tank?

Answer by ChewyJul 11, 2019
The size light needed would depend on how much heat is needed for your pet, not the size of the terrarium. It is recommended for your ball python, for the cage to have a cool end that is 80-85º Fahrenheit (26.7-Celsius) and a warm end that is 90-95º Fahrenheit (32.2-35º Celsius), so the snake can thermoregulate. The bigger the tank, the higher the wattage can be, such as a 60 watt bulb for a 55 gallon tank. Under-tank heating pads or ceramic heat emitters are preferred. You should use a timer to make sure that the light cycles are maintained appropriately.

What is the radius? Will it fill a 5.5-in lamp?

Answer by ChewyApr 25, 2022
This has a diameter of 3.5 inches (radius 1.75 inches). The Fluker's Ceramic Reptile Heat Emitter should be used in the clamp lamp 8.5" (can be with dimmer or with switch model) but the 8.5" lamp is rated up to 150 watts. The 5.5" lamp is only rated up to 75 watts and cannot support this bulb as it is 100 watts.

Works fine, but no instructions

This hood works fine. I combined it with the flukers ceramic heat bulb which worked well. The clamp allows you to twist the lamp around to easily position it

This hood works fine. I combined it with the flukers ceramic heat bulb which worked well. The clamp allows you to twist the lamp around to easily position it where the heat is needed The product requires some assembly, and Flukers did not include assembly instructions. I'll include some images to show how I assembled it, which should help with assembly. Also, no label for On or Off on the on/off switch. There is a small line etched in the plastic which apparenly means "ON."

Great for night

Love using this at night after my snake has eaten so that she has enough heat to digest effectively. I do wish I'd gotten a larger wattage, as it seems to struggle

Love using this at night after my snake has eaten so that she has enough heat to digest effectively. I do wish I'd gotten a larger wattage, as it seems to struggle sometimes to reach my set point, but it does keep the tank's temp from dropping dangerously low.

Works well

I’ve never had a problem with this heat emitter. I set it in the center of my beardie’s terrarium to create a temp gradient from basking to cool, and it works great

Chickens are a fan

My chickens like this way better in there coop on cold nights instead of the red light heat lamp I had before. Sleeping way better with no light!

Not as hot as a heat lamp.

I have had multiple heat lamp bulbs break over the last few winters and I thought I would see how this one holds up. It is not as hot, but still warms the area

I have had multiple heat lamp bulbs break over the last few winters and I thought I would see how this one holds up. It is not as hot, but still warms the area enough. No light. Seems sturdier than the regular bulbs.
