QUALITY and VALUE! Frisco makes the BEST products! Even better than the other brands that cost way more! I buy Frisco trees, houses, and am never disappointed in their products! Excellent instructions and easy to assemble. Perfect size for cats! It took my husband about one and a half hours to assemble, but he took his sweet time. He used just 1 phillips screwdriver. The wood has a tight grain and holds screws well, but it is easy to screw them in too. Everything was doweled and predrilled and fit together perfectly. No missing, cracked or broken parts at all! I plan on buying more of these for the outside feral cat colony when the time comes. The previous houses outside that I bought from Frisco for them are 6 years old and still like new! No rot, no mold, no cracks, nothing! I highly recommend this cat house, you won't be disappointed!

I bought this for my older, stray, outdoor cat so that she could be closer to the house/back porch to hang out with us. (She has a warmer, more solid shelter to live in out farther in the back yard.) I didn't buy it for her to shelter in necessarily, but to use the deck to chill out or nap at certain times of the day. Sturdiness for that purpose wasn't really important to me, though quality is. If needed, I could add straw or maybe winterize it with thermal bubble insulation. The wood is cedar; people have reviewed and said it's flimsy. It is a little "light," but cedar is a good wood (and expensive;;; to me, it smells amazing!). If you live in a dry climate, cedar hardens over time. The stain might fade, but it should weather well (in a dry climate). I expect the house to get some rain on it, so I'll see how it does in that regard. Nonetheless, it should last a few years, and then I can either rebuild it or buy another one. For the $79.99 I paid for it, in my opinion, it's worth that price for the purpose I bought it for. The parts to the house were packaged with much care. I could tell when I opened the box that the packers are meticulous in that regard. Also, it didn't take me but an hour or two to put it together by myself (5'2", 144 lb female). I had no problems (none) with screws or parts; and no cracked wood. But be careful! The wood is kind of light (it's crafted) and could maybe crack if you overdo certain screws. If you're gonna use a drill, be sure not to crank it -- what I did was used a drill to conserve my energy and to speed up the process, and then a screwdriver to tighten. As a note, sometimes it's best not to screw them in all the way in order to leave a little room for movement when putting parts together. This was true for the bolts and floor (Steps 2-4), Step 11, and Step 12. If anything seemed "off," it only took a moment to see what I was doing a bit "wrong" and adjust it. I didn't have problems with the instructions, but I did have to concentrate. If I were doing this all over again, this would be the house for me. I would buy it again. She hasn't used it yet, but I'm excited to see how she likes it. As a note, if you are looking for a more solid, heavier house...-- I bought a wooden dog house for about x3 more $ about 10 years ago.

We bought this because we have a feral black cat that we adopted. He prefers to be outside, and eats on our deck rail. It rains here in winter and we wanted to provide him a dry place on the deck to eat. Now that it has rained, we agree with another review that stated this is not waterproof. Part of the issue is that it’s not off the ground/deck enough. So my plan is to raise it about 3” and see if that helps to keep water from splashing into the “bedroom” lower portion. The plastic flaps to enter that area are nice and moveable when warm but not when they are cold. The roof is great but it needs more overhang at its low end, or it needs a gutter. The water drips onto the upper deck mostly at the top of the stairs. It’s doubtful that the 1/4” wood used will stand up to being wet for long. I may need to wait for a dry day and spray it with flex seal. As far assembly, I am 64-years young and I assembled it myself, husband was not needed. LOL. the only part that didn’t go together well was the ladder, which is the first thing you will build. Have a drill ready as you may need to redrill a hole.

I have a stray cat who has been coming around for a few years. I thought i would try to give him a safe place outside. He took to the house the same day I put it together. He hasn't left it . He eats and sleeps there. When it rains Romeo climbs up to the balcony. It did take me several hours to put it together. I would recommend you have another person to help . I loved every minute it took to put this house together. I would say buy it it is worth the price

My cat is skinny but very tall and loves to spread out when laying down. So I had a hard time finding an outdoor house that was large enough. This one he can stand up straight on both levels. I painted mine with a layer of Thompson water seal I had leftover from another project as o heard it wasn’t exactly waterproof and I want this to last year round. So that’s why the color is a little off in mine. Instructions were great. I got a little mixed up with pieces 14 thru 18, but was able to undo my mistake and get it all correct. I’m also very happy that it’s real wood rather than particle board. Another thing that’s very hard to find without a huge cost increase. Some prices split a bit when assembling but nothing that caused structural damage. So happy with this! Thank you!

On my porch for feral cats

It's a little difficult to put together and you're gonna have to make your own holes with some parts but it's intuitive enough. I use it to keep the food for ferals

It's a little difficult to put together and you're gonna have to make your own holes with some parts but it's intuitive enough. I use it to keep the food for ferals safe from the weather and the inside to keep them warm and they took to it immediately, super cute and sturdy

Apologies for the lack of apostrophes in this review. Chewys review system marks them as invalid characters. SUMMARY Its REALLY cute, but the advertised *solid wood and metal design* is actually *plywood and screws*. It also cannot be used outdoors without modifications to prevent rotting. FULL REVIEW One star removed for the misleading description of the materials. The phrase *solid wood and metal design* is used twice in the description, but the only metal is the screws. Additionally, most of the wood is plywood, not solid wood. There is nothing wrong with plywood, it is NOT solid wood and is a vastly cheaper material. It takes about two hours for one person to assemble at a casual pace. You will need a small wrench (or strong fingers) and a Phillips head screwdriver. I do NOT recommend assembling this indoors as it is pretty stinky until it has been aired out overnight. Each of the pieces is stamped with a blue number to aid in assembly. A few of these stamps are still visible after assembly is completed. Soapy water does not remove the dye. A light spritz of rubbing alcohol on a rag does fade it, but also fades the white paint underneath, so dont overdo it unless you have white paint on hand. The finished product feels decently sturdy and looks cute. However, we had a light rain the morning after assembly and despite the roof, the balcony was soaked. The roof does not extend beyond the back of the house, so some runoff drips onto the balcony. I will attach clear plastic sheeting to the back to prevent this reoccurring. Water also soaked into the wood rather than beading up, so the product is not actually treated for outdoor use. I am removing an additional star for this design oversight since the house is advertised for outdoor use. If you plan on keeping this on a covered porch, it may be fine. But for use in an outdoor enclosure or yard, you will need to treat the wood to prevent rot. FINAL VERDICT I seriously considered returning this house for a cheaper alternative. I dont feel it was quite worth the full cost given the misleading description of the materials used and the additional work required for outdoor use. But honestly, just the thought of disassembling it and getting all the pieces back into the box made me want to cry. For me, modding the final product is easier than returning. Did I mention its also really cute?

You get what you pay for

And I wish I had paid a little more. Pros - it's cute, good sized and easy to put together even with a hand screwdriver. Cons - the railings aren't measured correctly

And I wish I had paid a little more. Pros - it's cute, good sized and easy to put together even with a hand screwdriver. Cons - the railings aren't measured correctly so you have gaps (see pics - other pieces fit together fine), it's a very soft wood so sometimes the wood splits a little when you are putting in the screws and while it says the weather stain is harmless, it doesn't say non-toxic, which would be great when dealing with animals. All in all, not something I would recommend.
