Transition Instructions

While it’s perfectly safe to stop feeding your cat’s previous food one day and introduce Fussie Cat the next, we recommend a gradual transition to Fussie Cat for up to 2 weeks. This is especially true if your cat has been previously fed a high grain, corn, wheat or soy diet. Start by introducing a small amount of Fussie Cat, increasing it daily while decreasing the previous food by the same amount. This will help avoid upset stomachs as it makes it easier for your pet’s digestive system to acclimate.

FAQ

What sets Fussie Cat apart from other pet foods?

Fussie Cat recipes are based on our Meat First philosophy. Meat or fish is always the main ingredient. As cats are obligate carnivores, nothing but a Meat First recipe will provide complete, Physiologically Tuned™ nutrition for your pet.

Why is real meat as the first ingredient so important?

All Fussie Cat recipes are based on our Meat First™ philosophy because cats are obligate carnivores. They require high amounts of protein to thrive, and lack the digestive enzymes to properly break down and combine incomplete plant proteins. This means they must have high-quality animal protein for optimal health.

Should Fussie Cat canned foods be refrigerated after opening?

Yes. Any unused portion must be refrigerated in a sealed container. Consider a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. In addition, we recommend using each meal completely within 4 days of opening it. If your cat doesn’t care for cold food, let it sit at room temperature for around 30 minutes, or microwave it for 10 seconds (in a microwave safe dish, not the can), prior to feeding.

How do I read the dates on cans of Fussie Cat?

To help ensure you’re getting the freshest food for your cat, we provide both a “Production Date” and an “Expiration Date” on our packaging, located on the bottom of the can. It will read: “PRO MM/DD/YYYY, and EXP MM/DD/YYYY.” Never feed our pet food or any other brand to your cat past the expiration date.

What is the shelf life of Fussie Cat food?

Our recipes are vacuum sealed in our kitchen to give them a shelf life of 3 years. As with any pet food, never feed our meals to your pet past the expiration date, which is clearly marked on the bottom of the can.

Fussie Cat may be healthy, but will my cat like it?

The healthiest recipe in the world is useless if your cat won’t eat it. Conversely, the most delicious recipe falls short if it doesn’t provide the nutrition your cat’s biology demands. That’s why our recipes are all “Co-Created by Cats.™” We start with the Meat First™ ingredients your cat needs to thrive, then we taste test our meals with actual pets to create meals that are as delicious as they are nutritious.

Can I feed my cat dog food, or vice versa?

No. Despite what you may have heard, cats and dogs have unique nutritional needs and should be fed meals designed specifically for their needs. Health problems may occur from not feeding your pet a complete and balanced, species appropriate diet. Check the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) statement, or on the product packaging to determine if that recipe is appropriate for your pet’s nutritional requirements.

Is Fussie Cat easy to rotate between flavors with my sensitive feline?

Because Fussie Cat® products are formulated to have similar nutrient profiles it is a great rotational diet. If your cat is sensitive to a certain recipe we recommend that you try another.

How do I know Fussie Cat provides my pet with quality nutrition?

All Fussie Cat foods are made in an FDA-approved kitchen that also produces human-grade foods. We regularly inspect everything from the manufacturing process to the raw ingredients that go in our foods so you can rest assured your cat’s meals are prepared under the strictest guidelines for quality control that meets international standards.

Do you perform any invasive animal testing in developing your products?

No, and we never will. Our company was founded on the basis of providing delicious, nutritionally correct, value conscious meals for your cat. To fine-tune our recipes, we conduct trials where our food is fed to pets. This is done in a comfortable, stress-free environment for the animals.

What is AAFCO and is Fussie Cat AAFCO approved?

AAFCO stands for Association of American Feed Control Officials. All Fussie Cat recipes are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO for all life stages of your pet. This certifies that Fussie Cat is a nutritionally complete product that can be fed to your pet as its sole ration without adding any other substance except water. For more information on AAFCO regulations, visit aafco.org.

Co-Created by Cats

Instead of just assuming what kind of food cats will like, Fussie Cat lets them call the shots. Each recipe is co-created and taste-tested by cats to make sure your own kitty will love it. Aside from being highly palatable, Fussie Cat wet and dry foods are full of quality meats like boneless chicken, duck, tuna, shrimp and prawns to make sure your little carnivore is getting the protein-rich, feline-appropriate diet she needs.

Made for Meat Lovers

Made for Meat Lovers

If there's one thing cats crave, it's the rich taste of pure meat. It makes sense, because they're obligate carnivores. Your four-legged friend probably lets you know exactly what she likes, and it's sure to be fish, poultry or meat. Fussie Cat has farm-raised poultry, ocean fish from the South Pacific, and a whole range of interesting seafood options like Threadfin Bream, smoked tuna, mussels, clams and anchovies.

Physiologically Correct Diets

Knowing that cats need meat protein to survive, Fussie Cat developed formulas that they call Physiologically Correct. As true carnivores, their bodies are extremely efficient in processing meat, so 20% of their diet should come from animal proteins. Fussie Cat's foods start with meat, are low in carbs and include a complete spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals. You can be sure your kitty's getting all the necessary amino acids, protein and other nutrients.

Kitty's Choice

Kitty's Choice

With two canned food lines and several tempting dry food options, your cat can always have the dinner she prefers. Fussie Cat Premium is a tuna-based menu that pairs this popular fish with chicken or seafood delicacies. Super Premium is made for chicken lovers with boneless chicken, low sodium levels and plenty of omegas. Market Fresh dry foods are crunchy and delicious, with proteins full of vitamin B12, and antioxidant-rich cranberries and blueberries.

Outstanding Quality Control

Fussie Cat makes their top-quality foods in an FDA-registered kitchen—the same kitchen that produces canned food that's fit for people to eat. Thorough quality inspections are conducted daily for food safety, heavy metals, pathogens, contamination and pesticides, so the end product is everything that you should expect it to be.

    Fussie cat wet food

By DaddyBear on Jun 11, 2021

I was shopping for "tuna with ocean fish" but chewy was out of the small cans & only had the larger cans of this so decided to try a different type which was "tuna with threadfin bream". Turns out my cat who is very picky will not eat the tuna with threadfin so I will donate the case of cans to a cat rescue group.

    Hit or miss

    By Gemcat on May 1, 2021 top1000Contributor

Ordered this flavor since the fave, tuna and ocean fish, was out of stock. Sometimes we like it, sometimes we don’t. Hope Joy’s usual comes back in stock soon cos this is her usual a.m. feeding and while I love my ferals, it’s a little too high-end to get them used to!

    soooo fussy!

By Lucie on Jan 31, 2021

This is some seriously high quality cat food. It is obvious when you open the can. It looks like fish in aspic, just what it says on the can. It doesn't look like a gross brown mushy mess... like so many other wet pet foods out there. And of course my cat loves it. As soon as I started feeding it to her, she gave up on other foods. She is not a talkative cat but when I open these cans, she lets me know how excited she is. I also think her hair & coat has improved (less dandruff) after switching to this food. She's ~13 lbs, tuxedo shorthair cat. I feed her half of the 3 oz can in the morning, half at night, with a dry food snack in the middle of the day. Perfect. Fussy cats indeed!

By PerseEtmoi on Jan 7, 2021

After much trial and error, Fussie Cat has become both of my cats favorite food. The ones with clams and thread beam are their favorites! A little expensive, definitely worth it!

    Great for my picky kitties!!

By TriciaG on Aug 19, 2020

I add this as a topper to their other canned food, half a small can as topper for each serving. They love it! They eat their canned treat food much better now!! :):) They used to have something similar put out by Purina years ago, it had real fish in aspic, it is no longer made. My Persian loved it. I fed it to her for 21 years. I have Persians now, this will be my go to topper for them now, as they really seem to love it!! No scraps are left in the bowl!! I love Chewy, for the variety and great selection of products it offers for our furry members of our family. :):) I go here for everything I can. I only shop elsewhere if what I am looking for is not available at Chewy. Chewy is the I add this as a topper to their other canned food, half a small can as topper for each serving. They love it! His Royal Highness likes it!

By pamg on Jun 28, 2020

My adorable cat is driving me nuts with his food pickiness, but he loves this combo and so far all the Fussie Cat cans of fish varieties I've brought home from our local feed store have been a hit with him. I would LOVE to see a combination of fish entrees offered! A whole case of one food means he's going to balk. Please consider adding this option.

    Containes carrageenan!

    By catlady6 on Apr 28, 2020

I ordered this product because the ingredients listed on your web site indicated it DID NOT contain carrageenan. However, upon receiving the product, the label lists carrageenan in the contents. I have a call into the manufacturer to determine which is correct or is the information on your site incorrect. This ingredient causes inflammation and I am feeding elderly cats and do not want to cause any health issues. Other than this, they like the product, but I have to put it in a mini food processor to make it easier for them to consume it without having to chew. They normally are accustomed to eating pate and this is not a pate. The fish is in an aspic/jello-like condition.
