Does the soap remove the bloom from farm fresh eggs?

Answer by ChewyApr 03, 2025
This wash effectively cleans eggs, and in doing so the bloom is removed, so it is recommended to refrigerate them afterward.

We used as directed, but still needed to wipe the egg off after use to get it really clean. It sprayed on well and the nozzle didn't clog. We have a pasture raised, cage free operation and we tried this product on dirty eggs that had been laid in the field. We used it in conjunction with the egg cleaning tool that came with it. Depending on the size of the egg, the product didn't necessarily come into contact well when used with the tool. It may be more useful just to spray it on a cloth and use it that way.

Good Egg – Egg Wash >>PUMP IT UP!<<

Egg Wash by Good Egg, in a Pump Top Dispenser! I wish there was more packing in the box when this was shipped. . . I Loved the pump dispenser. Easy and good amount of soap comes out, so only 2 or 3 pumps needed. I use an egg soak product, and the Egg Wash here is a perfect companion, but not a replacement for me. The eggs, after they soak, are washed with 1 pump of the Egg Wash, just by hand. The magic is for more soiled eggs. Two to Three pumps in the washer (third product of this trio) and usually a few quick turns take care of it. Spots removed with washer in a different technique covered in the review for that product. Worked pretty darned well, and less heavy scrub with a paper towel to preserve eggs and bloom. The soap does make the eggs slippery, so wash over a bucket with some water to catch dropped eggs. Again, rinse well in warm water and let dry before refrigerating. As with the re-fill soap, it was not smelly, it did not irritate my calloused hands, and it is convenient to refill. Four ingredients are listed, but I don’t know what they really are, except water, and What trace elements? So, I got a Bio-Chem education. The trace minerals and water enhancers mainly support the plant enzymes. The MAY also keep the shell from drying out, make for better rinse, and help lift away the dirt. The enzymes, and there are so many, are the stars here. They MAY help break down Protein found in egg ingredients (albumin, broken egg yolk and white), and PooP! That’s an important one. Others, if they are in there, break down fats and oils, and starch (from food, food dust). I don’t know what enzymes are in Good Egg – Egg Wash. They also should keep ‘The Bloom’ if the eggs are not scrubbed too hard. ALSO, hot water will limit the enzyme action, so Warm is the word. Overall, I liked this product and give it 4 stars. It works well, easy on the hands, doesn’t smell bad, helps keep bloom intact, easy to dispense and refill. Missing fifth star is for a little but on the pricey side for amount used per egg, and the mystery enzymes and water enhancers that are in there. Thank You! : )

This product seems to work well and we love that it is seemingly all natural (hard to know exactly because ingredients aren't all listed), but it's expensive. We'll be trying another product to compare that is less expensive and lists mostly natural ingedients as well - or move to dish soap. For the amount of eggs I'll be cleaning I can't justify $11-12 for a foaming pump bottle every month. But it does seem to work!

Works but nothing extraordinary

I have had some pretty dirty eggs recently because one of girls has decided to not lay in the nest boxes. The soap worked well but I’d not say I saw much of a difference

We are always on the lookout for natural products that make life easier - The Good Egg was and line of products is a safe, effective, gentle way to remove chicken dirties from our hen's fresh eggs. The packaging is aesthetically pleasing, so we keep it right on the sink next to hand and dish soap so it's handy. Gives our farm fresh eggs a nice gentle scrub!

This product is different for me. I would never have expected an egg wash. I thought it worked well and made eggs nice and clean. After receiving this product I saw it in a local animal store that doesn’t normally have Chewy products. I thought that was pretty neat.

the dispenser on this bottle works well and easily enough. The spa works ok, i have only used it twice in combination with the scrubber. it still takes a bit of effort to scrub and dirt or mud wtc off the egg. Thoroughly wring the egg gets along with using this spa and the egg scrubber brush.
