Questions & Answers

7 Customer Questions

Can’t cats/kittens climb up the mesh & over to the other side?

Answer by ChewySep 02, 2025
It is possible that a determined cat or kitten, or even a dog, could climb or jump over the gate. This gate is ideal for pets that respect barriers.

Can a dog or cat squeeze under the gate?

Answer by ChewyAug 27, 2025
Depending on height of where gate is mounted, a determined pet could squeeze under.

Can these be installed so the gate is slightly diagonal when closed?

Answer by ChewyAug 06, 2025
Ideally, not, it was designed to be installed with the catch mounts parallel or perpendicular to the gate unit so that the forces applied to the catch mounts are pulling directly away from the mounts or across them at a 90-degree angle. While functionally possible to install at an angle other than described above, it may lead to unusual wear or breakages with catch mounts or the gate mounts.

Is it possible to purchase an extra set of mounting hardware so you can change the location as needed?

Answer by ChewyJan 01, 2026
At this time, any spare parts can be found through the manufacturer's website.

The gate was easy to install and looks great. The lock function can hinder getting it in place but that will probably become easier as we get used to it. It is difficult to open and close with one hand as other reviews stated but that is due to how taut the gate is when in place. Our cats don't attempt to jump it. We also haven't had any issues of them trying to go under it as mentioned by another review. We did position it as low as it could go. Overall, it does exactly what we need. It's not a perfect 5 star but pretty close for us.

We needed something that was wider than a standard baby gate for our stairs to keep our 5 lb pomeranian safe. It hit the mark on size and wasnt easy to open and close, but wasn't terrible. The hardware to install it was the real fail. According to the directions, the anchors were only to be used for concrete. You were supposed to be able to screw the brackets directly into drywall. No surprise they didn't hold at all. So, I used the anchors that were included. They lasted about 3 days before the hardware pulled out of the wall. Now, I've installed with anchors I had from a different project. Seems ok, but im probably going to need to install some kind of wood panel/plate to screw into to actual hold the bracket long term. If that were the only issue, I'd probably still give it a better score, but it's a pain to open and close. It is the right size and strength to protect against a 5 lb dog. I wouldn't trust it against a 20 lb dog though.

Though the installation was easy, I find opening and closing the gate awkward unless you grab it from the top and bottom. It seems some sort of grab handle on the gate between the latch would allow for easier latching and unlatching and prevent uneven retraction.

We have a "runner" who will dash out the front door every time it's opened. My husband installed this retractable gate with no issues, and it can withstand two dogs jumping against it when fully locked in place. The only thing to be mindful of is to keep the fabric level and straight when extending and retracting to prevent the fabric from bunching up.

Easy install, difficult to use

I am surprised more reviews didn’t mention how difficult it is to operate. Closing it is easy, but opening it requires two hands or even a foot to get the bottom

I am surprised more reviews didn’t mention how difficult it is to operate. Closing it is easy, but opening it requires two hands or even a foot to get the bottom portion out of the catch. It serves my purpose of keeping my medium sized dog out of the area, but I find myself choosing to step over it because it’s too clunky to open.

Depends on pet

This easily kept my 115 German shepherd out of the hall, but my 20 lb puppy figured out how to push underneath and somehow pushes the top out even when locked.

Doesn't work for small dogs

Installed this in our basement. Our 14 lb terrier was under it and standing in front of me 2 minutes after I got back up stairs. Also, doesn't come with enough spacers for anything more than 1/4" trim along the floor. Probably fine for larger dogs and babies.

Love these useful gates! We needed to block off two entrances to our living room for our dog when we weren’t home. We put one in a doorway. The other entrance was an odd shape and wider than a doorframe, and involved a baseboard we needed to work around. These gates worked perfectly for both entrances!
