At first glance it was way too dark, not golden like most good Millett and Millett received from this company before. It smelled moldy and the bird will not touch it. Sadly have to return this. Have purchased Higgins before and it was beautiful golden large sprigs, but not this time.
This is the first time I’ve been disappointed with a product from this site. The millet that I got is obviously very old. Both the seeds and the clumps fall off the stem readily and there is already a much larger amount of loose seed in the box than I usually find even at the end of the box.
I prefer this over all other brands of millet the spays are usually nice and thick and my birds love this weekly treat
My birds will only eat Higgins Millet! Good to find it available at Chewy
I have two budgies and this is their favorite treat. The devour the whole spray.
My 4 parakeet's and 1 parrot they love this so i got them different ones
I have to return 50% of the time not worth the trouble.
I've purchased millet from different vendors over the years. This was one of the "poorest" of quality. Not that my budgies don't eat it....but at least 25% of this box is nothing but seed and 1" pieces. I always use my clippers to cut the stems off....but this millet was so dry, I could just snap the stems off with my fingers. This is no reflection on Chewy. They are great.....and probably just looking to provide their customers with a less expensive millet. But, if so much of it is a waste....than it really isn't much of a savings.
I'll open with "I will continue to buy this" so you understand that the criticism are not deal breakers. It's about the same cost as other millet, and it wasn't 'bad' but my birds are not exactly thrilled with it. At current pricing, Millet should really should have the stems cut and the branches halved or otherwise cut to the basic length acceptable for the smaller birds that need these in their diet. I was also surprise to find them in a box with no food safe bag - not sealed, just a tight rubber band at the top of the bag is really sufficient. The millet isn't dry per-se, but the stalks are. When millet dries it becomes inedible and the individual bits fall off. These just break when trying to put them in any clip or spiral type holder. This doesn't thrill the occupants of Hangar 19, but if they don't get it, they are certainly happy with it.
I was surprised how long the millet spray was. My Parakeets love them. I thought it would last a long time. But it was gone in few days.
