Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

It's worth the money
By Jackie on Mar 2, 2021
My pretty cat, Rosie, had back to back UTIs. This food was a God send, granted it costs half the price of our families groceries for a week. It is well worth the price, I guarantee that for my own cat-she has shown a remarkable difference in just 5 days.

Vet said we HAD to get this
By Jocey70 on Feb 1, 2021
Our two cats have been on Hills dry food for two weeks and last night was the first time we let them roam free in the house as opposed to being confined. Things are OK so far. The older, bigger cat was constantly marking causing a lot of frustration for us. After bringing him to the Vet's and paying for tests, the Hills appeared the only option yet to take.

He Loves It
By MissyP on Dec 27, 2020
My cat has is prone to struvite bladder stones -- a very expensive problem to fix. Since 2014 he has been on the c/d wet food diet of chicken and tuna stew, supplemented with Temptations treats. When I saw the c/d dry food, I thought I'd try it instead of the usual dry food treats I've been giving him. I bought the Ocean Fish dry food. Now it seems he prefers that to his wet food and has been leaving most of the wet food untouched. So now I'm mixing wet and dry to get him to eat the wet.

It saved my cats life!
By Jetter on Jan 13, 2021
My cat had surgery that saved his life but I had to promise to keep him on a Prescription diet. I have and he is still alive and doing well. It has been 3 years since his surgery. I also give him this food in chicken. It comes in both wet and dry. I use both!

By Andif on Mar 3, 2021
We have 2 cats but only one of my cat had urinary infection and needs special diet. Both cats like this dry cat food. We feed both with the same special diet food.

Love my pets
By Pets on Jan 24, 2021
I really love the convince of ordering from chewys. The variety of prescription canned cat food is a little limited, but my cat loves the dry food and it has really helped him. The prices are very reasonable for a medicated food.

If, at first, you don't succeed, . . . .
By Vintage on Jan 9, 2021
It's a fake rating! I cannot rate this item. I'm certain it's a wonderful product. Nevertheless, my kitty refuses to partake of it. It's worth noting, however, that the "With Chicken" flavor labeled "Winning Taste" and wearing a red ribbon image has been accepted, reluctantly.

Changed my Cats Life
By Tealowlmom on Jan 7, 2021
This food is incredible. My cat had a major blockage, required two surgeries and we worried about losing him. He was only 2. Our vet put him on this food and wow. What a difference. No blockage, he can urinate normal and is a very happy cat now. I consider this a miracle food!

Not As Good As the Chicken
By Wendy on Dec 4, 2020
My Wendy was recently diagnosed so this is all new to me with a LOT of trial and error. I ordered the chicken flavor the first time which she liked. I decided to try the ocean fish for my next order but she’s not crazy about it at all. I mistakenly ordered the larger bag. So she will be nibbling on this for a long time.
