Questions & Answers

25 Customer Questions

I received a case of these from the pantry, but my cat is healthy. Can I still feed this to her? I don't want to let them go to waste.

Answer by ChewyJun 04, 2018
Since this is a prescription food formulated to meet specific diet restrictions from known health issues, this food should not be fed to any other animal than the one prescribed due to the restriction of specific nutrients. Prescription diets can be detrimental to an otherwise healthy pet if that pet doesn't have the ailment for which the food is designed.

Under feeding instructions what is meant by schedule 1 schedule 2 and schedule 3?

Answer by ChewyMay 13, 2020
It is recommended to select a feeding schedule based on the following patient criteria. Schedule 1: Cage Rest. Schedule 2: Surgery, Sepsis, Cancer, Trauma, Fever, Feline Hepatic Lipidosis. Schedule 3: Severe Burn, Injury or Head Trauma. Please consult with your vet to determine the correct feeding schedule for your pet.

Is it ok to continue this food as part of a senior cat's diet on a permanent basis (in conjunction with their dry cat food regime)?

Answer by ChewyJan 20, 2021
This recipe is specifically formulated to help dogs and cats in their recovering process.

How long can this be refridgerated after opening?

Answer by ChewyMar 23, 2021
Your pet’s bowl should be emptied of moist or canned food not eaten by your cat or dog within 4 hours if the ambient temperature is above 50°F. Opened cans should be stored in the fridge, at temperatures between 40-45°F, for a maximum of 5-7 days. Any cat or dog food remaining after that time should be thrown out.

This cat has never been overweight and started losing weight as he aged. This a/d food is the first time he would touch can food. I started it after a dental procedure he had a year or so ago (losing a couple teeth) I needed him to eat afterwards to say the least, he loves this food, it’s keeping his weight up. He’s 18.5 years old and still plays with the laser. Highly recommend! It is prescription.

He loves this food, he eats twice a day a very small amount. It’s just enough to keep him full and stops him from throwing up everyday . It has helped him gain some weight. He is the worst eater, won’t eat anything you offer him - except eggs and bacon , and an Italian meat called mortadella . Which he can’t eat everyday , those are treats . I have tired so many foods, this one from the vet has been a game changer and I know as he loves out his later years this is why he needs this .

A/D is an excellent food for kitties not eating well or that need more specialized food. It is easy to put in a syringe if needed, just add a little water. I always have it on hand for my very senior babies and it is especially good for my CRF kitties if they are having a temporary off day. I also mix it with chicken baby food or fancy feast. It is expensive and needs a prescription but it is worth every penny.

Hunter has always been a thin body frame cat. Once he got older, as in 16 years. It's become harder to keep weight on him. Some days I mix it with half a can of water and make "kitty soup", some days it's straight out of the can. I offer this with his regular food as well. It has helped him gain about a pound in 2 months. They rest of the cats eat the left overs, so if Hunter doesnt want to eat it, it doesnt get wasted. I recommend for sick cats as well.

Helped our underweight, 13-year-old, toothless chihuahua, to gain from 2.83 pounds to 3.1 pounds. Vet very pleased with his weight gain. He can only gain a few more ounces at most because of his little spindly legs, & small frame. But he looks so much better!

My cat is very old & sick and sometimes doesn't want to eat. This is the ONLY food I can get her to eat. Sometimes I add warm water to thin it out. I also liquefy and add to the syringe to mask the taste of liquid antibiotic. Then I'll give her a couple more syringes of food so she lets me medicate her the next time with less fuss At least now she's eating again.
