Description

Cats and dogs can undergo significant metabolic changes when recovering from a serious illness, injury or surgery. During these stressful conditions the body is challenged to maintain strong natural defenses and spare lean body mass, which makes it is even more important to feed the right food. Cats and dogs need extra energy and nutrients, in an appetizing form, to encourage the recovery process. At Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help dogs and cats in recovering process.

Key Benefits

  • Highly digestible ingredients and extra calories to help during recovery from serious illness, accident and surgery
  • Highly digestible proteins to help wound and tissue healing, preserving lean body mass and promoting a healthy immune system
  • Developed with extra calories and increased level of potassium to help avoid depletion
  • Highly palatable with a soft consistency aids acceptance by inappetant pets and gives flexibility in feeding -- by bowl, spoon, syringe or feeding tube
  • Cats and dogs need extra energy and nutrients to encourage the recovery process and this recipe does just that in an appetizing form

Feeding Instructions

Individual requirements may vary depending on pre - existing nutritional status and medical condition. In patients where normal G.I. function has been compromised by anorexia, a 3 - day transitional feeding strategy may be necessary.

  • Day 1 1/3 of daily caloric intake with 2/3 water dilution
  • Day 2 2/3 of daily caloric intake with 1/3 water dilution
  • Day 3 Entire daily caloric intake

Select a feeding schedule based on the following patient criteria:

  • Schedule 1 Cage Rest
  • Schedule 2 Surgery, Sepsis, Cancer, Trauma, Fever, Feline Hepatic Lipidosis
  • Schedule 3Severe Burn, Injury or Head Trauma

The following daily intakes are intended as a guide and should be adjusted as needed to achieve or maintain optimum body weight. Divide into 3 - 6 equal daily feedings to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. (1 can = 150 ml.)

Transition Instructions

A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food. In some cases, your veterinarian may recommend no transition or a shorter transition time.

Accidentally hit a dog on my way to work..not sure who cried more. No one claimed her so I took her straight to our vet. Her pelvis was fractured, multiple scrapes, bruises and bumps. She was given this food in the hospital and we continued feeding it to her when we brought her home a few days later. To cut down on any chance of our dogs wanting to steal her food, we fed all of them the same. Our silly cat also wanted it--it smells like a pot roast. Long story short, she was mending and healing amazingly fast and our other two stopped scratching and their hair grew back (they were suffering from hot spots which nothing helped). Long story short, she was mending and healing amazingly fast and our other two stopped scratching and their hair grew back (they were suffering from hot spots which nothing helped). Our cat is 24 years old (that's 104 in human yrs), her hair looked so healthy, she was jumping again. It is pricey, but worth every penny for their comfort. The lab, now known as "Gracie", fully recovered, runs and plays and we are thankful. Never found her owners and thankful we didn't, the dr determined in her 12-18 months of life she had 3 litters (don't know how they can tell, but they have the degree). She appeared to be a puppy mill victim. I felt so bad for running over her and how sweet she was comforting me when she could have took my hand off. Doc said it was probably the nicest thing that had ever happened to her. Now she's someone's baby, not making babies that get taken away to make someone money. She's very loved and very spoiled now.....thanks to this food and our wonderful medical team, she's very healthy...like she was meant to be. … more

  • Success at last!

Finally I have a cat food that my boys like. Given along with 4 other foods the vet has allowed that I give some every day to my boys and I'm so happy that there is something there now that they do like rather than me having to enhance it with baby food. Wish they'd add what ever the taste element is in this to more foods. Thanks I have nine show boys so I try everything.

  • Worth every cent!

Our 12 plus old Maltipoo was eating sporadically and loosing weight. In less than 2 months she lost 10 percent of her body weight. Our vet placed her on a diet which included HIlls Prescription diet a/d. In one month she gained the weight back. We only add a quarter can to get regular food each feeding time. I absolutely recommend this for pets needing rejuvenation.

My boy has kidney disease. After trying k/b and n/f goods he was loosing a ton of weight. He hated that food. I was throwing away more than he would eat. The vet switched him to this in a crisis and he loves it. He is eating 2 cans a day.

My older papillon is very picky and now that she is missing several teeth and needs a special diet due to bladder stones, it's nice to finally find food she likes. Service is great as well.

  • Excellent Product for very sick and weak dogs.

Gave this food to my dear baby for about 4-5 months. It was a blessing to her as she had cancer and could not swallow to well. The vet prescribed it and my Gipsy loved it. Sadly and still hurting because my baby just passed away two days ago, I donated the last auto ship box received @ 4 weeks ago to the Ridge Veterinary Clinic of Lake Wales, Florida where Dr.Yoder and her whole staff treated and cared for my dear baby with so much love whenever I had to take her there.

My cat is older and not doing well health wise. She has gotten extremely finicky and this is the ONLY food she will consistently eat. It's expensive but worth every penny to keep her eating

  • Great urgent care food!

This nutrient-packed food is great! My 17 year old has a cancerous mouth lesion and his predominant food intake is via feeding tube. This food whips up well and is easy to pull into the syringe. My kitty also loves to eat this food when his mouth is up to the task. Great urgent care nourishment!
