At Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help dogs and cats in recovering process.

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

My cat loves this food!!!
By Billie on Feb 20, 2021
My vet prescribed my 15 year old cat this because she hasn’t been eating as well...that was a month ago and she is obsessed with this food! I give her about a quarter of the can every evening because it’s big and she’s a little dainty girl. She eats her dry food during the day and special soft food by night. Marilyn has put a healthy weight back on and she’s doing amazing for an old girl.

Cat approved!
By Patty on Feb 2, 2021
My girl, Amber, was very sick and not eating. My vet suggested I try this so that she could get some nutrients and put some weight on. She actually ate it! Not only that, but she prefers this over store brand and has gained some much needed weight. You never know until you try, so before buying a case, I suggest you ask your vet if you can buy 1 can to start. This shipped out the day my vet approved the order.

Meatballs for pills!
By Penny on Jan 1, 2021
I purchased a case of this as recommended by my vet when Penny was adjusting to medication for Addison’s disease. Pill pockets no longer worked and she needed to take Proin to manage her bladder. As the need for pills will exist for the rest of her life, twice a day I scoop out a heaping teaspoon of Hill’s ad, pop a pill, (quartered for Proin), put the “meatball” on my fingers and she happily takes it in then licks my fingers. The Proin requires 4 scoops and she is so eager for this “dessert” twice a day, she reminds me if I’m slow in offering it.

What a relief!
By ppween2 on Jan 23, 2021
My cat was vomiting and losing weight due to a newly diagnosed, serious illness. The vet recommended Hill's Urgent Care and he took to it right away. It's easily digestible and thankfully, he's gained some weight.

only thing sick dog would eat
By Ashley on Dec 11, 2020
We had a dog critically ill and desperately tried to get him to eat. This did get him to eat for the first few days. Unfortunately we lost him anyway, but for awhile this did work to get our boy eating during a very hard time. Strong odor, but I think it helps make it palatable for them when they don’t have an appetite. Expensive, and wish they had larger cans for larger dogs.

joy of hyperthyroidism cat
By grans on Nov 11, 2020
This product is excellent. Of course, she is being Miss Picky. Her name is Chase and she is feral. One day I was opening a can of tuna in oil. She was walking by and smelled it and went nuts. She wanted that tuna! So I gave her some and she woofed it down. I have found add some tuna oil along with this a/d food and she is eating much better. As for the dry tuna either the outside kitties get it or my bunch if they aren’t gonna be picky.

Excellent!!!
By Candi on Jan 2, 2021
When my kitty wasn't eating my vet suggested this food. I was a little skeptical since I haven't had much luck with Hills prescriptions before, BUT this was gold!!! My kittens ate it all and wanted more! Great product!!!!

Senior Cat Gourmet Pate
By WilliamsMom on Nov 24, 2020
My senior cats have lost their manners over this food. They only think about Hill's Science Diet A/D canned food. I have two elderly cats that require a special diet. The kibble I feed is hard for them to chew and they were losing weight. The only downside is that the two cats that are eating this food have lost their good manners and are constantly demanding more.
