Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Game Changer
By Alpacadoc on Jan 16, 2021
For years my barn cat was scrawny and had smelly diarrhea--all over the floor, the hay, wherever. I tried multiple good diets--some would help for a few weeks, then the diarrhea would return. Fecal exams negative. My farm vet suggested that she might have inflammatory bowel disease and might benefit from a prescription diet. This was a GAME CHANGER!! She devoured the wet and dry food and the diarrhea disappeared. Just one fat "log", no odor, twice a day. She gained weight and was happier and more active than she had been 4 years earlier. Sadly, she died at age 14 from an infection, but her last 6 months were definitely her best!

Fussy Cat Not Best Test
By Barby on Feb 16, 2021
The cat that requires the gastroenteric food does not like it. He does not like any other similar brand either. We tried the food out on our very fat cat and she said it was just fine. So, if a cat likes the food and the food is proper food for the cat, I am certain the product is a fine product.

Convenience at your door!
By MikeBurton on Feb 22, 2021
My cat is having digestive issues, and my vet recommended EN cat food. Since it was cheaper at Chewy -- and it comes right to my door -- I got it here. My other cats don't need a special diet, but it's okay for them to use it, too.

Helped my cat

This was good a good product when my cat was discharged from the hospital. I actually ordered the natural EN for a more wholesome ingredients list. Eventually my cat was put on a hydrolized diet due to severe pancreatitis

Good for Tummy Issues
By dmmc on Jan 5, 2021
I ordered this food for my cat who was diagnosed with pancreatitis. So far the condition has been under control. Since all of my cats are seniors, they all eat it. Luckily, the cat for whom it was prescribed seems to like it okay. The others except for one are eating it okay too.

Cats are obligate CARNIVORES
By Lethal on Nov 3, 2020
Cats require meat in their diet and need little carbohydrates. This prescription diet is FULL of rice and also lists byproducts in the top ingredients. Awesome...if I wanted to kill my cat which, for the record, I didn't.

Damaged cans!
By Disappointed on Nov 5, 2020
I'm not sure how this could happen, but most all of the cans in this box are dented and I'm not sure if I should even use them. I wouldn't if it was for myself so..... What should a person do?

miracle food
By Kate on Aug 11, 2020
My 12-yr-old cat suddenly started showing his age this year, and had a variety of procedures including dental surgery (with antibiotics), which seemed to have kicked off some underlying food sensitivities. He was experiencing strange on-and-off diarrhea (with totally normal litter boxes in between) that perplexed the vets. After trying probiotics, deworming, and other food changes, the vet suggested a "bland diet" to give his system a rest. My cat is historically EXTREMELY picky about his wet food and its texture, so upon opening this can and seeing a lot of whole pieces of rice, I was convinced this wasn't even going to get a trial bite. Even though this was meant to be a temporary gut rest, he will now be eating this for life. I'm not sure why this food is considered "prescription" food, which is obviously an extra hurdle, but it's so worth it. … more
