The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Chicken Dry Dog Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your dog’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.
Key Benefits- Protects vital kidney and heart function and supports the natural ability to build lean muscle daily.
- Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T.) technology helps increase the appetite and food intake.
- Made with controlled phosphorus and low sodium, plus therapeutic levels of l-carnitine and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Also includes high levels of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
- Made in USA and clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

Vet Recommended
By Spryguy on Feb 14, 2021
My vet recommended this for my elderly Lab who has kidney disease. I couldn't tell you if it helped or not since he's only been eating it a couple weeks and hasn't had any blood work done yet, but my vet told me that sometimes the kidney enzymes return to normal range after this food. Experience with Chewy was EXCELLENT, I will be using them for purchases in the future and would highly recommend Chewy to a friend.

Buyer Beware!
By Lizzy on Jan 23, 2021
I feel like the worst pet parent in the world. I gave in after a year of being pressured by our vet to give this food to my 9 year old small breed. We weaned her over from FreshPet which she was on because the cranberries made her urine acidic to prevent stones and she’s such a picky eater with weird intolerances that it was all she would eat. We caved. We spent a lot of money on this food and the first few days she was on only it she hunger strikes. My 9 pound dog didn’t eat for three days she hates it so much. She then gave I. Realizing she wouldn’t get anything but broth on it out of us and ate it. Now she’s wetting herself in her sleep almost constantly. On digging I found out no only is I feel like the worst pet parent in the world. I gave in after a year of being pressured by our vet to give this food to my 9 year old small breed. Realizing she wouldn’t get anything but broth on it out of us and ate it. Now she’s wetting herself in her sleep almost constantly. On digging I found out no only is this a side affect a few people have experienced but the ingredients in this are not what I would even consider acceptable for her! It’s a chicken food so I though we would be staying away from beef and pork known irritants for her and it’s loaded with pork fat and liver. It’s not gluten free. I did know what going in but on top of everything else it’s caused so much problems with her she’s basically back to square one. So now we have to get her back on the old food and hope no damage has been done. Check the ingredients. Don’t let others fool you. I can’t even tell her sorry for hurting her because of my own negligence because she doesn’t understand why she has to be in her kennel all the time and not in our laps where she loves to be. … more

Great Choice
By Kris on Feb 16, 2021
After my vet recommended that I get my Lilly on a special KD food, I reviewed all my choices on this website. I looked at all the reviews and decided to try Hills. When it arrived it was alittle larger nugget than what she was used to but she doesn’t seem to mind. She is a very picky eater and I wasn’t sure she was going to like it but she does. She eats it up and I’m thrilled.

Great product
By Danielle on Jan 27, 2021
My 13 year old lab was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She has been on this product for the past 4 months and she’s moving around much better, lost weight, and is not urinating non stop. The only drawback is that she is not super fond of the taste, so I buy the KD wet food as well and mix it. She seems to enjoy it much better with that.

k/d food and delivery
By Sammy on Feb 14, 2021
My baby has cushings and liver disease, We were recommended to switch from w/d to k/d and he likes it and it's healthy for him. He's has had his diseases for 4 1/2 years. Our vet tends to run out of the k/d food so I have signed up for autoship with the hopes we can rely on the monthly delivery.

YUCK...not such a great food.
By Khris on Jan 16, 2021
Our dog, is 16 1/2 years old. Sadly, his kidney's are failing. So, our vet recommended this food. Our dog, is a rescue dog and will eat ANYTHING...well, we thought. He refuses to eat this food. It was astonishing to see, that a dog that we thought would literally eat anything, flat out refuses to eat this food. SUCH A BUMMER...especially since it is so expensive.

Not edible
By Lola on Dec 15, 2020
We worked our Italian Greyhounds (both with kidney disease by elevated BUN) - one 15 and one 11 years old - off their previous diet to this and the canned food. Tried several versions (dry only, canned only and mixed) and to no avail..they just sniff it and walk away. Tried mixing in fats, gravy, hamburger, turkey, you name it. Nope. The younger is eating some as she is more active. Don't get me wrong here too...It's not lack of appetitie. They will eat plain chicken, beef, treats, etc. , but not this. Just tried another brand recommended by our vet on older and she hoovered it down. Whew. As other reviewers said, this just smells and tastes terrible.

As expected
By Angel on Feb 8, 2021
We were recommended this specific dog food for my geriatric dog. She loves it and has had no problems with digestion or an upset stomach. The quality of the product seems to be great and the price is pretty much what I expected.

HD K/D special food
By Pattwin0 on Jan 4, 2021
My dog was found to have kidney disease and we ordered K/D from Cbewy and the shipment arrived in a timely manner. My dog actually likes the food. We mix the dry with some canned and she finishes the entire meal. We have not tried the auto ship yet but once we get the routine down of how fast we go thru the food, we will sign up.
