I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

out of stock
By Mileysmama on Jan 29, 2021
I like many others has a dog who depends upon this food for survival. She is picky. She only likes the lamb and has only a few teeth to eat the kibble. Hill's has been out of stock on the lamb canned k/d since november. I just received the chicken pate. I sure hope she will eat it. She LOVED the lamb. Will this item be back in stock or is it discontinued? I cannot get it from my vet either. Out of stock.

Sadly Disappointed
By TobMom on Jan 21, 2021
My dog was doing well on this food - but now it's out of stock. Hills stresses that we shouldn't make sudden changes to our dogs' diets - well thanks a lot - we'll have to make a sudden change and find something else. Don't start your dog on this - you'll be disappointed, too.

Einistein’s new diet
By Einistein on Nov 24, 2020
Einstein is a 16 years 9 month old dog who has developed kidney problems so the vet prescribed Kidney Care for him. He has never in his long life had a hankering for canned food. Believe me I tried. Kidney Care has changed his mind. He loves this new food and seems to not be able to get enough of it. Yay, so glad he likes it.

Lamb consistency is odd but they like it.
By SeniorpupsMom on Oct 5, 2020
Comes out sort of congealed but they do eat it usually. My girls are picky 16 year old pups. They get tired of everything eventually but one of them has kidney disease and needs it. It has no semblance of food, however. I do wish it did not require a can opener. I have to use a hand opener as it doesn't work in the electric opener. I don't understand why it can't have a pull top like everything else.

My Vizsla likes this Lamb flavor prescription wet food
By LS930 on Nov 11, 2020
I was given over 10 brand and flavor choices by the nutritionist for my 11 year old vizsla with kidney disease. He is more often than not eating all of this moist pate style lamb flavor by Hills K/D

My dogs won't eat it....:-(
By Vicki on Oct 4, 2020
Both of my senior dogs are in early kidney failure. I had bought 3 different brands of prescription dog food for them at my Vet's. This was the only brand/flavor they would eat, so I ordered a case for them. They won't touch it.

Love Chewy but not the food
By Luvie on Sep 5, 2020
This is not the same as the science diet by Hill we got at our vet..Maybe I ordered the wrong contence of this brand. It was very pasty and did not mix well with my 13 year old lab dry food.Chewy this is not your fault it was just too dry to be wet food in a can. Thank you

Lamb can food
By Lisa on Sep 18, 2020
I really wish the can lamb KD would be more like a stew and not like a paste. I buy the chicken and beef KD stew and my dogs do very well on them.
-
My dog loves this food!
By Kimmie on Sep 5, 2020
I was worried but Boo loves this food, she’s tiny so the stew is harder for her to eat, the pate she can eat without fighting to take a bite and she loves the flavor!

My Little Girl LOVES Her New Food
By DogMom on Jun 23, 2020
My almost 16 year old was recently diagnosed with beginning stages of kidney disease and it was recommended that we switch to Hill K/D. My little girl LOVES her new food! Her energy is up and she seems to feel better. The only down side is that she loves it so much that she has been waking me up 2 hours early for her breakfast, which, of course, I oblige.
